It’s Tuesday already? Seriously? If you’re anything like me then you’re probably in post-Labor Day denial and counting down the minutes until Friday creeps back around and you can return to the pool with a beer in hand. It’s okay, we’ll make it through together because Dallas has plenty of boozy news to get us to the weekend.

For the Beer Lovers:

Deep Ellum Brewing Company hosted their annual Labor of Love Homebrew Competition this past Sunday with 40+ Texas local homebrewers. The Best of Show and July 2015 production grand prize went to Intrinsic Brewing with their Basil Buzz Hefeweizen.

Dallas comes up with some pretty funky food fads, but funnel cake beer is one I never thought possible. Thanks to the Big Tex Choice Awards and Texas’ dedication to claim the best fried food in the nation, Justin Martinez proved to us all that we can have it all in one bite (or gulp). His Funnel Cake Ale brewed with the help of Community Brewing Co. claimed the “Most Creative” award at the event for its “refreshing English-style summer taste with delicate notes of natural vanilla.” Take a swig of this madness come September 26 along with the other award-winning fried creations.

Alamo Drafthouse launches their new beer program this month to spotlight and explore the vast world of beer with a focus on a different style of brew each month. Expect special tap and bottle selections from local craft breweries, beer-centric events like exclusive keg tappings, meet-the-brewer nights and more. Kicking off the program the best way possible, September will celebrate Oktoberfest with Märzen style beers. Alamo and Glass Half Full locations will feature the renowned Oktoberfest offerings from heavy-hitters Shiner, Sam Adams and Brooklyn Brewery in addition to a selection of Oktoberfest-style beers from local and regional craft breweries specially curated by each location.

For Wine Lovers:

Chef Justo Blanco of Bolsa Mercado will showcase his Peruvian roots this Thursday at the Wine Poste for their monthly Guest Chef Dinner. The five-course wine pairing dinner will feature a sparkling wine reception to start followed by South American wines paired to each course. For $90 you can indulge in dishes such as Grouper Ceviche, Chicken Escabeche, Braised Goat Osso Bucco, Traditional Beef Sirloin Stir-fry and Charred Meringue with Sweet Lucuma Mousse. For Cocktail Lovers:

Bolsa makes drinking easy with their Wednesday cocktail challenge featuring Don Julio tequila (Blanco, Reposado and Anejo). Bartenders will select four ingredients submitted by guests and make four cocktails that will go for a mere $5 all night long.

Hopdoddy has a new cocktail special called Samurai Jack with sake, yuzu, pineapple and mint. Sounds pretty refreshing to me.

Don’t you hate when you’re at a party or kicking it with a couple of your buds and everything comes to a serious halt when you realize the beer box is empty? Then there’s an epic rock, paper, scissors throw down and someone is forced to make the trek for more (which always seems like the longest trip of your life). Fear no more because this past week Austin Beerworks (leave it to Texas to come up with this geniusness) rolled out a 99-pack of beer on select shelves in the city. Originally a promotion to get word out about their Peacemaker Anytime Ale, the seven-feet-long, 82-pound gift from God apparently functions as more than just a party starter. Individuals who managed to get their hands on the original 20 packs doubled them as barbells, makeshift ping-pong dividers, body pillows and head support. The brewery plans to make more after the stunt peaked interest from a number of retailer and consumers. Oh, and in case you wanted to know what you’ll be drinking, the Peacemaker Anytime Ale offers a “slight biscuit/cracker character with faint aroma of floral and citrus from the Centennial hops.”
