Farm to Market Report: Weekend of August 16

farmersMarket_02_char (1)Farmers markets around the area are full of interesting finds this weekend, with late summer produce and new vendors for the city to explore. Take a look at some of the exciting updates for this week’s roundup.

Coppell Farmers Market

This Saturday at 8:00 a.m., the Coppell Rotary Club, in conjunction with Coppell Mayor Karen Hunt and City Council members, will dedicate the new flag pole at the market in Old Town Coppell and raise the new five-by-eight foot American flag. An inscribed boulder, honoring American veterans and donated by Grow It Land Design, will also be dedicated. Continuing the Market to Kitchen series, Chef Hugh Stewart the Sous Chef at Chamberlain’s Fish Market Grill will demonstrate how to prepare meals using locally produced, seasonal ingredients from the Coppell Farmers Market’s farmers and producers. Stewart traveled and lived in Central America and the Caribbean, learning about the exotic flavor of the Caribbean and Spanish cuisines. This helped him develop his palette and enhance his knowledge of culinary arts. Hugh is now turning heads with his world class specials and off-menu features. Chef Stewart is a familiar face at the Coppell Farmers Market, often seen at his parents’ booth, Biscuit Head Baking Company, where they sell their hand crafted doggie biscuits as well as Texas Olive Ranch products.

Cowtown Farmers Market

Make it early to this Saturday to be one of the first 300 people to visit the Chipotle booth and get a $5 voucher to spend at the market. Then take that voucher and fill your bags with items like artisan fair-trade roasted coffee, pork/goat sausage, watermelon, figs, eggplant, mild/hot tamales, salsa and pickles. Combine slicing tomatoes, peaches, honey and raw cows’ milk cheeses for a twist on your classic bruschetta. Pick up a treat from new vendor Steel City Pops to cool off while you walk around.

Frisco Farmers Market
Get ready for a full house of vendors this weekend plus new additions of Allie Kate’s Organic Coffees, Cottage Bakery’s low-sugar, gluten-free desserts, Juicer Heroes’ fresh, cold-pressed juices, and Texas Brittles’ locally-made brittle. Also on deck are pasture-fed beef, pork, lamb and eggs to create a family feast along with more decadent items like cheesecake, muffins, honey and chocolate.

Grapevine Farmers Market
From honey grilled spicy watermelon to watermelon jerky to watermelon gremata, Grapevine wants you to embrace their sweet watermelon selection with unique at-home recipes. Choose from no sugar added jams sweetened with natural fruit juices and certified organic olive oil products from Texas Hill Country Olive Company. A family-owned business located Dripping Springs, Texas Hill County features a Tuscan-inspired mill house, state-of-the-art Italian olive press and certified organic olive orchards across their land. Toss featured produce like pecos cantaloupe, Israel melon, olathe sweet corn and flavor grenade plums in the oils to create a summer fruit salsa with pita chips.
