Farm-to-Market Report: Weekend of March 30-June 1

Larken Farms will be bringing their fresh peaches and Fisher Family Farms will be selling cucumbers and pinto beans. Both red and green tomatoes will be available from Dead End Farm. Other produce options include green veggies such as cabbage, broccoli, kale and Swiss chard and root veggies such as red potatoes, radishes, carrots and onions. Ranchers will haul in grass-raised beef and lamb, range-free chicken and eggs and cow and goat’s milk cheese. If you’re looking for prepared goods, artisan bakeries will be selling pies, breads and cookies while other goods include granola, salsa, tamales and relishes.

Dallas Farmers Market
Chef Sandra Jones will be teaching a class on home canning from 4–6 p.m. in the multi-purpose classroom on Saturday, May 31. She will demonstrate how to make pickles and relish. Individual classes are $80.

Fairview Farms Marketplace
This weekend Fairview Farms will have grass-fed meat, farm-fresh eggs and a generous supply of produce, including mushrooms. There will be a drip irrigation demonstration at 11 a.m. for those who want to learn about conserving water.

Frisco Farmers Market. The vendor spotlight this week is on Weathertop Farm.  This family farm brings fabulous greens to the Frisco Farmers Market.  You will find kale, spring greens, and lettuces along with turnips, carrots, and much more.  Grown with love and respect for our planet, please come and see Weathertop Farm in space 2 this Saturday.

Little D Farmers Market
Cool off with Steel City Pop’s organic, all-natural, small batch popsicles made with local ingredients. The recently opened Greenville Avenue-based shop will make its second appearance at Sunday’s market. Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters will also be on hand with artisanal offerings. If looking for quick, gluten-free fix for the week ahead, My Gluten-Free Friend will offer frozen entrees.

Saint Michael’s Farmers Market
Summer produce is in abundance this week as the market welcomes Demases Farm-Fresh Produce from Boyd. This new vendor will offer black-eyed and purple hull peas, eggplant, green beans, herbs, okra, peppers and watermelon. If looking for something sweet, Baugh Farms has first-of-the-season peaches. Also new to the market, Sweet Nana’s Granola will have six varieties of granola made with local nuts, fruit, honey and oats. The market’s May Market Drive ends this weekend. Bring canned vegetables, fruits, peanut butter, beans, tuna or chicken to the market to benefit North Dallas Shared Ministries and the North Dallas Food Bank.
