Farm to Market Report: Weekend of April 18-21

farmersMarket_02_charThis Easter weekend, make a family trip down to the farmers market this weekend. There is no reason you can’t eat healthy and buy fresh food when you have plenty of farmers markets to choose from.

Collin County Farmers Market: Soaps, candles, and body care products are perfect for any gift basket. Look no further and head to the Collin County Farmers Market to buy all the greatest essentials.

Next Saturday, April 26, the director of the market, Kari Gates, will teach a class at noon on What it means to eat local. RSVP to this free class on Facebook.

Coppell Farmers Market: Tomatoes decided to surprise us early this year and they’re ready for eating! The Dead End Farm family has been able to keep their tomato plants warm during these freezing winter months. Make a delicious salad with these beautifully grown vegetables including tomatoes, kale, arugula, Chinese cabbage, bok choy, and Swiss chard.

If you are in the process of redoing your garden, spring color bedding plants will be available for purchase.

Cowtown Farmers Market: Get your arugula, carrots, and onions at the farmers market this weekend. Tip: Arugula is great on pizza, but put it on after you put it in the oven.

Dallas Farmers Market: This Saturday certified organic and GoTexan Farmer, JBG Organic, is coming to the farmers market. JBG Organic is based out of Austin with farms also in Denton and Cedar Creek. It will be selling a variety of greens.

Four Seasons Market (Fairview): Peach Pastries and Kurry King and will be making their debut at the market this weekend. How about a mix of Indian food and pastry? Sounds delicious.

Four Seasons Market (Richardson): The HindsFeet Farm is joining the Richardson Farmers Market this Saturday with pastured eggs, chicken, and pork (large black heritage grass-fed hogs).

Grand Prairie Farmers Market: This farmers market is full of activities on Saturday. A gardening class will take place at 11:20 a.m. to teach you how to spruce up your yard with potted plants. Mixed Up Burgers‘ Kyle Bryson will teach his untraditional approach to burgers at 10:30 a.m. Of course, samples and other goodies will be provided. Bring all of your knives and head over to the Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful to sharpen and get your knives in tip-top shape.

Historic Downtown McKinney (Chestnut): Bring the kids and head down to the farmers market to make Easter baskets and to collect candy from market vendors. Plum Creek Primitives will be demonstrating fairy gardening in the pergola. Also, Bud Rager will be making his appearance at the Taylor Inn Porch.

Saint Michael’s Farmers Market: Recently, I have been on a gluten-free kick (let’s see how long that lasts). My Gluten Free Friend will be available at the Saint Michael’s Farmers Market this weekend. Let me know how it is!
