Somebody Help This Poor Girl: Best Dessert in Dallas

This is the best dessert I ever ate, but it wasn't in Dallas.
This is the best dessert I have ever eaten, but it wasn’t in Dallas.

She’s on a diet and wants to fall off the wagon by eating one dessert. I really don’t like to promote diets—everything in moderation should be a way of life—but I’ll let her plead her !!! case.

Nancy, I’ve been on a diet for the last six months. I am getting married in June and want to be THIN!!! I have cut out all sugar and desserts are my favorite!!! Here is my question for your readers!!! If I am going to breakdown and eat one dessert in Dallas what should it be? Thanks and I look forward to hearing from other readers!!!

Deets on my favorite dessert.

  1. in my mind, 2 desserts really stick out:

    1. Cinco Leches Cake – Mr. Mesero
    - This is an UNBELIEVABLE cake. I used to love La Duni’s Cuatro Leches, but it often comes out stale and dry. When it’s done right, it’s still fantastic. But even the very best LD Cuatro Leches doesn’t come close to comparing to the Cinco Leches at Mr. Mesero.

    2. Apple Walnut Cobbler – Hillstone
I’ve loved this dessert since I was a wee lad eating at the Houston’s on Walnut Hill east of 75 near the old Dave & Buster’s. It still blows my socks off and it takes everything in my power not to order it every time I go to Hillstone. It’s not a local restaurant, but this dessert is otherworldly. It puts all other pies and cobblers to shame.

  2. Everything above is great, but you will only have 1 dessert. It has to be amazing and worth it. I have two options:
    1. Warm Milk Chocolate Cake Pudding at La duni
    or
    2. Whiskey Cake at Whiskey Cake
Don’t waste your time with anything else….

  3. My “go to” dessert, day or night, 24/7, 365 is …….Baklava Ice Cream Cake at Ziziki’s. This should be your choice, too.

  4. The diavoletti at Cane Rosso (a dessert pizza with caramel, nutella, etc.) is a good starting place, as well as the aforementioned Cinco Leches Cake. Other Dallas dessert necessities include the Orange Mandarin Cake at Asian Mint, the flan at Gloria’s, a fried pie at Peggy Sue’s BBQ, or my new favorite, the Chocolate Cream Pie at 20 Feet Seafood Joint.

  5. i just went back and had Cinco Leches at Mr. Mesero.

Now I am 100% convinced that this is the best dessert in Dallas. It is far and away the best cake I’ve ever had. I LOVE Whiskey Cake, but Cinco Leches is otherworldly. The perfect cake.

  6. I’m totally in love with the Whiskey Cake from….Whiskey Cake. warm, not overly sweet. topped with fresh whipped cream and this sauce i could drink….mmmmm

  7. Warm Sticky Toffee Cake from Victor Tangos. It’s the desert that Whiskey Cake modeled their namesake after and missed the mark.

  8. In my opinion you can’t beat the sweet potato pie with caramel and toasted pecans served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top at Pappadeaux Restaurant.

  9. In my opinion you can’t beat the sweet potato pie with caramel and toasted pecans served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream at Pappadeaux Restaurant. It’s to die for.

  10. The chocolate bag at Trulucks. If you are going to splurge in calories, this is one of the best!

  11. Without knowing your personal tastes, this is a hard question to answer. Are you a fruit person or love chocolate? Into moist cakes or do you prefer creamy pies? From cake to pies to cookies to – well you name it – we’ve been baking up delicious treats for 20 years. Try our Chocolate Seduction Cake or Banana Jazz Pie. Sure crowd pleasers. Congrats on your wedding!

  12. My vote is for the butterscotch pot at Neighborhood Services, but I don’t know if it’s a permanent fixture.

  13. I second the Whiskey Cake at Whiskey Cake, but my go to is the Smoores Calzone at Cane Rosso!

  14. I second the Whiskey Cake suggestion, but my absolute favorite is the S’mores Calzone from Cane Rosso!

  15. There’s a reason it’s been around so long… Heaven and Hell Cake at Stephan Pyles

  16. Yum ! I just sampled a batch of Cinnamon Ice Cream that I made. Top that Pie with HENRY’S CINNAMON HOMEMADE ICE CREAM !

  17. I would sell my soul for
    Pappasito’s “Cajetas”

Coconut-pecan crusted vanilla ice cream, drizzled with cajeta & chocolate sauce. Served with sopapillas

  18. You could enjoy some Savoy Sorbet everyday and still be okay. It has no milk, no (bad) fat and is all natural. The chocolate flavor is made with coconut milk, Madagascar vanilla beans and brandy at only 30 calories a scoop. The fat (very little) comes from the coconut milk and is instantly used for energy by the body. Go ahead and splurge. It tastes like frozen fudge.
