Anyone else loving the rain this morning? I thought I was dreaming when I heard the pitter-patter on my window. Hopefully, this is the last stab in summer’s back, and we can finally move on with our year. This weekend has a ton of great stuff going on. You can close your eyes and swing your finger, and you’ll probably find something fun to do.
Oh baby, bust out the lederhosen and find your stein; it’s time for Addison’s Oktoberfest! Tonight, from 6 to11 p.m., you’ll enjoy games, carnival rides, food… am I forgetting anything? Right. Lots and lots of beer. You can grab a cold brew at the Draught Haus, dance under the Schloss Addison tent, and watch teams compete in bier barrel racing. I’m guessing they’ll all be a few drinks in by that point.
No meat allowed. That’s what the general consensus is at the Texas State Veggie Fair at Reverchon Park. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. you can walk around and enjoy tons of tasty vegetarian and vegan cuisine, as well as a beer garden, a farmers market, and live music. Kids and pets are welcome, and this time your picky cousin is too. (You know, the one who won’t eat anything that has a face).
Wine Poste’s monthly wine club tasting is tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. If you’re unfamiliar with wine or just enjoy being around the stuff, it’s a nice place to be. Admission is $10 for five tastes (a few wines from California and a couple from France), but if you end up joining the monthly club that evening, the $10 tasting fee is waived entirely. Poof. No más.
Hotel St. Germain is launching a dining series titled “Lost Worlds” featuring expeditions that revolve around legendary cultures. Tonight at 7 p.m., they will explore the Havana culture of the ‘50s, calling it “Hemingway’s Cuba.” The dinner will consist of Cuban cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a “Golden Era” multi-course wine dinner, and Cuban, Salsa and Mambo music. Seats are $95 a person. If you can’t make it tonight, don’t fret – they’ve added a second night on Saturday, due to overwhelming response.
This evening at D’Vine Wine, jazz singer Judy Chamberlain and her band of merry musicians will be taking the stage at 7 p.m. and performing a wide variety of songs, including requests from the Great American Songbook. Prepare to feel the urge to both dance and cuddle. It’s going to be one of those nights.
Starting tomorrow at 10 a.m. is the second Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show at the Dallas Convention Center. Among the show’s hundreds of exhibitors and cooking demos will be celebrity appearances by the one and only Paula Deen and her son Bobby. General admission starts at $24.50, but be ready to pay a little extra to see the queen of Southern cuisine herself.
From 11 to 5 p.m. on Deep Ellum’s Main Street, you’ll find yourself amidst a wonderland of grilled goodness at BurgerFest, a burger event birthed from the minds of same geniuses that brought you the North Texas Taco Festival and TacoCon (Cerveza). If live music and a beer garden still aren’t enough to persuade you, there’s also going to be a VIP lounge.
Dallas’ four wineries will open their doors from 11 to 5 p.m. at the annual Dallas Wine Trail. You’ll get a hearty sampling of each of the wineries’ autumn wares, tasty snacks, and a commemorative Wine Trail glass. It’s $39.95 a person. Sounds like a pretty nice way to spend an afternoon.
This Sunday is the last one of the month, which means it’s time for Dish Restaurant and Lounge‘s Drag Brunch. The name says everything. Come for the wigs, stay for the food.
Temple Shalom is hosting the second annual Food Truck Palooza from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It’s $5 to get in and enjoy tons of great food from Bombay Chopsticks, Coolhaus, Cravetopia, Cup Cakin’, Easy Slider, Gandolfo’s, Mr. Snowie, Nammi, Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe & Crepe Truck, Taco Party and more. Kids under five get in for free and can play in the Kids’ Zone, complete with bounce houses and face painters. With live music from local bands like Vic Duncan to round off the evening, this sounds like an absolute blast.
