Reader Reviews: DFW Restaurant Week 2013

DFW-restaurant-weekPeople, it’s  day FOUR of DFW Restaurant Week 2013. We are STILL waiting for your pictures and reports. Tell us the good, bad, and the ugly. We also want pictures of great servers. If you have a wonderful service experience, ask for the servers name and snap a photo and email them to me. We will honor them  each Friday.

Many restaurants still have dinner reservations and some are doing prix fixe lunch specials. Here’s the list. Go out and support our local restaurants. Your dollars will help the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home. Remember to tip your server. We’ll fill cyberspace with food: tweet us (@DSideDish) reviews and we’ll retweet them. It’s too hot to think so LET’S EAT.

Ready to report: went to Place at Perry’s last night and had a wonderful meal with friends. Niman 8 oz marbled filet, with bisque to start, family sides to share and crème brulee for dessert. We also took advantage of the CM 4th course option of shrimp in a sweet-tangy sauce. Yummy. We loved our server Darren (or Warren? There was wine.) who was superb; filling us in on the wine pairings in full detail, to sharing his thoughts of how cooked our cut of meat should be to our individual likings. The chef and management also stopped by our table to express their thanks for dining with them.

I’ve been reading the less-than-flattering reviews of RW, and have to say I’m of different mindset. I dine at Place at Perry’s outside of RW, and my meal last night was comparable to all of my other (wonderful) experiences. The added benefit is that the North Texas Food Bank receives funding AND exposure this week, and that makes me a happy diner. -kk

My date and I dined at Fearing’s Wednesday night. All in all, it was a good experience, not the best, but certainly not the worst. My date had the shrimp starter which was she said was delightful and refreshing. I had the carnitas tacos, which were dry but good. We both had the filet entrée, which was very enjoyable. The beef was cooked perfectly and the potato enchilada was spectacular (the star of the entire meal). Desert was average at best, if I had to do it all over again, I think I would have asked our waiter for the desert menu and ordered something from the regular menu.

Someone on Wednesday commented that the service was rushed. I totally agree with that comment. I felt that we were trying to be turned very quickly. The service was very attentive, but no doubt not the normal Fearing’s experience.

The blogger questioned if Dallas was over Restaurant Week, initially I thought the question was daft and didn’t pay much attention to the post, but after my experience Wednesday I do think that I’m over restaurant week. The meal was excellent and service was fine, but the ambiance was well below par. I, in part, blame YOU food blogger. The frequent flashes from dinners snapping pictures of their meals made me question if I was in a fine dinning establishment or a European discotheque. Shame on you Dallas diners, shame on you. Please do us all a favor and pay attention to your flash setting before snapping that coveted picture.

We made reservations for Sissy’s Southern Kitchen but cancelled. Why? They are only offering the restaurant week menu at 5:00PM and 9:00PM. Is this ethical ? Is this for charity or a PR event? Are other establishments doing the same thing? No desire to ever darken their doorway or give them my credit card.
