Farm to Market Report: Weekend of August 17

farmersMarket_02_char11I can’t believe it’s almost the end of summer already. Kids are going back to school. It’s been raining the last couple of days. And, shoot, Halloween is just around the corner. Or so it feels. Anyway, farmers markets are still steadyfreddy, so that’s a good thing. Whew.

This one’s going to be short. I don’t have my Marley here anymore to help with these reports. Sad.

Coppell Farmers Market: Have you seen the summer cover of Edible Dallas? The popsicles on there are mouth-watering and beautiful. Those SAME EXACT popsicles, Popstar Homemade Popsicles, will be debuting at the Coppell Farmers Market for the first time this Saturday. On the website, market organizer, Amanda, also says, “Melons are sweet and juicy, while peaches and blueberries still abound. It’s prime vegetable season with both summer and winter squash varieties showing up. Find tomatoes, tomatillos, cucumbers, garlic, onions, peppers, potatoes, okra, eggplant, herbs, and more.”

White Rock Lake Farmers Market: PR extraodinaire, Amity Thomas, writes in: ” Food and artisan market this weekend at Lakeside Baptist Church.  Folks should check out Fruth Farms and JuHa Ranch for all natural meats and eggs.  Always lots of eggs, different varieties of melons, okra, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese and fresh baked breads.  Paul Wackym will have his seasonal Hatch Chile Chocolate Chip Cookies, ask for the fresh mango salsa that Cita (Cita’s Salsa) has in the cooler  and pair it with tasty tamales from Tamale Factory.  FYI – WRLM has been nominated (along with 9 other businesses) by The Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce for business of the year.  Winner will be announced at a luncheon next Tuesday.”
