This weekend, the Rockers Vs. Mods descended upon Dallas for its 7th year running…and scooting. The bikers covered the city shredding rubber and donning tattoos. They rode from bar to bar eating, drinking, and listening to some live music. The event plays hommage to two gangs of British youths: mods and rockers. In the mid-60s each rebellious group sparked a moral panic and the both were seen as folk devils. The rockers adopted a macho biker gang image, wearing clothes such as black leather jackets. The mods adopted a pose of scooter-driving sophistication, wearing suits and other cleancut outfits. By late 1966, the two subcultures had faded until a revival in the mid 80’s. The purpose of this rally is to have an excuse to get out the gear, polish up the Nortons, Triumphs, BMW or Vespas, Lambrettas and Allstates depending on your allegiance and commemorate this unique period in motorcycle history.
Nancy admits she is a fan of the rockers. She told me to download the Who album, Quadraphenia.
It was a weekend long festival celebrating their love and devotion of two wheeled badassery, and it was quite an enjoyable time. I will let the pictures do the rest. Enjoy.
