Farm to Market Report: Easter Weekend

farmersMarket_02_char11Last weekend’s weather turned out to be cold, wet, and dreary, and it looks as though we may get more rain this Saturday. I know that “April showers bring May flowers,” but it’d be nice to just fast-forward to the flowers. Since there’s only a slight chance of thunderstorms, grab your coat and an umbrella and catch up on your shopping. Have a favorite vendor that you like to frequent for specific items? Let us know.

Coppell Farmers Market: Coppell is currently in their winter market and will not be open this weekend. Be sure to check back next week!

793 S. Coppell Rd.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Dallas Farmers Market: The spring cooking sessions are about to get underway at the Dallas Farmers Market; Jim Severson from Sevy’s Grill will visit on April 6 to lead a cooking class. The theme will be “Back to the Beginning.” In the meantime, produce you should look for that is currently in season include asparagus, beets, blackberries, raspberries, brussel sprouts, and broccoli.

 1010 S. Pearl Expressway
Daily, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Four Seasons Market: New vendor Memphis Catfish will be joining Four Seasons on Saturday with farm-raised catfish, gulf and white shrimp, waffle fries, fried green tomatoes, and fresh cabbage slaw. All of the regular vendors will also be back, including The Spice Shop with a variety of spices and herbs, and plants and flowers from That Cactus Guy.

677 W. Campbell Rd.
Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Grand Prairie Farmers Market: Grand Prairie will be having a “Downtown Eggscellent Adventure” to celebrate Easter, complete with an Easter bunny, egg decorating, and an hourly Easter egg hunt on the grounds. Don’t forget to bring the kids to enjoy all the festivities! Items to shop for will include plants, tamales, salsas, dips, relishes, meats, and more.

120 W. Main St.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m.  –  1:00 p.m.

White Rock Local Market: Sadly, there won’t be a market at White Rock this weekend since it falls on the fifth Saturday of the month. Don’t be too bummed out though, mark your calendar on April 27 for the third annual Chili Cook-Off at the Green Spot location! White Rock is looking for 20 teams to provide tastings for $7 per person, and proceeds will benefit White Rock Local Market programs such as Love Your Farmer volunteer days, and Sprouting Healthy Kids. Celebrity guests will include Corby Davidson, co-host of Hardline, Josh Yingling, co-owner of Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House, and Daniel Vaughn, BBQ editor of Texas Monthly.

702 N. Buckner Blvd
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Something to look forward to in April: Chipotle will be visiting a farmers market every Saturday to distribute recipes and $10 tokens to the first 100 people who stop by their booth! The tokens can be used to buy produce and goods from that market.
