Making Dallas Even Better

Somebody Help This Poor Girl: Chicken and Dumplings in Dallas

She woke up this rainy morning with a craving. Satisfy her.

Hi Nancy! I got up this morning and found myself craving a great big bowl of chicken and dumplings. Can you ask your readers where my husband and I can go tonight to eat the best?

The first place that comes to mind is the “new” Mecca in east Dallas.

Highland Park Cafeteria serves them as well. But, I’d call to inquire which days they’re serving it

And there’s Norma’s for sure. Norma’s has a few locations around Dallas with the Oak Cliff restaurant being the original.

The last time I had good chicken and dumplings was at Po’ Melvins in Irving, Beltine Road. I do love chicken and dumplings once in a while. Might check to make sure it’s still open at that location.

Too bad she didn’t get the craving on a Wednesday – that’s the special at Kel’s Kitchen…

I liked Acme F&B’s (though I don’t know if it’s still on the menu), and I believe Stampede 66 makes a good version, as well.

Chris Ward at the Mercury makes the best hands down, but he only does it for a couple of weeks out of the year so I would call up there first. It is absolutely spectacular.

Metro Diner on Harry Hines around Wycliff has good chicken and dumplings. It’s the special on Thursday, I believe!

I second Highland Park Cafeteria. You can call, order, and pick up quick in the back to take home too.

That is my favorite dish and Bubba’s on Hilcrest in Snider Plaza has the best!! Even out of the nicer restaurants!

Cyndi’s Deli, near Founder’s Park. Fantastic! Just like Grandma used to make.
