Restaurant Review: Cook Hall in Dallas

I walked into this sleek American gastropub in the W Hotel with a chip on my shoulder. I’d seen the press materials with a stylized photograph of sliders, a trend I would like to see vanish, and all-too-abused buzzwords such as “small plates,” “familiar comfort foods,” and “hand-crafted cocktails.” An hour and a half later, I emerged without the chip and with a belly full of good food.

    Technically, I’ve been.

Craving a good brunch, my husband and I took a leisurely walk down to the W a few Sundays ago. I checked the website beforehand to make sure they were open and serving brunch on Sundays. Upon arrival, we were told “the chef decided not to serve brunch today, only lunch.”

Seriously? Perhaps I take my Sunday brunching too seriously, but I was definitely annoyed. Hopefully they get the kinks worked out.

Rick Graff is brilliant. I haven’t eaten the food there, but he never disappoints. Cooked for George Brown when he had his restaurant on Inwood.
