December 24 Food Truck Schedule and News for Dallas/Ft. Worth

Many of the food trucks are still on vacation this week, but a few are poking their heads out.  In particular, look for some great trucks at Big D NYE tonight (it might be a little late).

This week, we add Klyde Warren Park’s Relish Food Truck.  Although they are semi-permanently at KWP, look for them to have a moving route soon.

The “Food Truck Experience” continues at Sigels/Greenville on Wednesday.  Easy Slider, an original participant when it first cranked up, will be back.

A lunch time popup truck park will begin on January 2 and continue for 4 weeks at 12377 Merit Drive (between Forest Lane and 635).  At least two trucks a day will be there.  Trucks include Pompeii, Ssahm BBQ, Ruthie’s, Taste of Home, Cupcakin, The Stand, Gandolfos, Nammi, Gastro Bomber, Rock And Roll Tacos, Easy Slider, Rockstar Bakeshop, and Rock N Ricks.

Here’s your schedule for the week.  Be sure to check Twitter and Facebook feeds first.  Happy New Year and be safe.  Jump. Continue reading "December 24 Food Truck Schedule and News for Dallas/Ft. Worth"

What To Drink Now: Last Minute New Years Cocktails

Still looking for inspiration for tonight’s libations for your New Year’s Eve celebration?  Here are a few innovative and delicious cocktails to the rescue – mix up a batch of any of these ahead of time so all you have to do is add ice while enjoying your party.

Bubbly is the norm on New Year’s Eve, but you can transform your inexpensive glass of Cava or Prosecco with the addition of an array of liqueurs.  Add in floral St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, gingery Domaine de Canton Liqueur, fruity Chambord raspberry liqueur, spicy SNAP liqueur, or any array of other flavored liqueurs you may have in your liquor cabinet that will add an extra special touch to your favorite sparkler.  Add a few pomegranate seeds or raspberries for an additional special touch.

Or take the Champagne cocktail up a notch with this from Cointreau.

Sugar and Spice
½ oz. Remy Martin VSOP
½ oz. Cointreau
1 sugar cube
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Top with chilled Champagne
Build all ingredients in a chilled champagne flute.  Garnish with a long lemon twist. Continue reading "What To Drink Now: Last Minute New Years Cocktails"

The Year in Review: Dallas Dining Scene 2012

Tully Lewis in TuLu’s Gluten-Free Bakery

In a couple hours, it’ll be 2013. Scary, scary thought. At least 2012 was a pretty good year, right? I mean, we came pretty close to the end of the world (thanks, Mayans), but we’re still alive. Amazing how that worked out.

So here’s what happened on SideDish this year. Take a walk through Nostalgia Park with me as I review what’s happened during the last 365 days. We can even hold hands and skip past the trees together.

You ready?

Everybody wanted a piece of Preston Center. That area was h-o-t. Within the last nine months of 2012, a slew of places decided to nest in that little piece of land between the tollway, Preston Road, and Northwest Highway. TuLu’s, Ocho, Hopdoddy, Spoon, and Katherine Clapner’s Dude, Sweet Chocolate are making the Park Cities even more of a traffic hazard, and we already know that Wicked Po’ Boys is opening its second location three doors down from Hopdoddy in 2013. Lots to look forward to.
