Farm to Market Report: Weekend of September 8-9

The weather looks fantastic this weekend. Texas is going to feel like California, and I couldn’t be any happier about it.

Celebration Farmers Market: In a Pickle and City’s Salsa will be absent this week, but don’t fear! Their products will still be inside the store. Mother Shuckers is going to sell wholesome homemade tamales from Burleson, TX, and Reeves Farm has a bunch of red beets, peppers, corn on the cob, tomatoes, peaches, and melons. Josh Heddin Farms has purple hulled peas and pinto beans, squash, melons, berries, peppers, onions, and fresh Canton peaches.

Coppell Farmers Market: Amanda Vanhoozier writes, “This week’s seasonal produce includes peaches, the beginning of the apple crop, watermelon and cantaloupe, mushrooms, salad lettuce varieties,cooking greens, tomatoes, peppers, green beans, corn, cucumbers, shelled peas, eggplant, and herbs. Ranchers will have pastured beef, pork, chicken and eggs.” Sundance Gardens will also be out there selling decorative plants, pickles, and baked goods.

Cowtown Farmers Market:: Market Organizer Gwin Grimes writes in:

We will have an atypical, small harvest of asparagus from B&G Gardens in Poolville, a result of earlier cool and rainy weather.
We now have a vendor selling fresh farm eggs, the first license granted by the city to one of our market’s farmer-members.
Aduro Bean Roasters has returned as a vendor after a year’s hiatus, selling their organic, fair trade coffees blended and roasted in McKinney.
Guest vendor The Fat Truck food truck will be at market serving breakfast tacos.
Two of our markets remain open: Westside (3821 Southwest Blvd.), 8 am to noon Saturdays, year-round, and Downtown Fort Worth (1000 Throckmorton St.), 9 am to 1 pm Tuesdays.

Fairview Farms: This week, there are watermelons, cantaloupes, and tomatoes. Last-of-the-season peaches are still available if you get there early. Butternut and acorn squash is starting to arrive, and most everything is available if you just ask. The extra stuff is kept in the cooler since it’s hot outside.

Frisco Farmers Market:: Even moms and dads need back to school supplies. Pick up some spicy Bloody Mary mix, single use marinades (Reshampatti pepper, Caribbean jerk, salt-free herb), and smoked spices (cherry black peppercorns, cherry red pepper flakes) for some parental relief in the kitchen.

Grapevine Farmers Market: Jack says they’re still roasting hatch chiles this weekend out in that tumbler thingy. Tommy’s Tamales will have a hatch green chile queso that they’re selling, and Mary B’s cakes has a hatch green chile cheese cornbread (whoa) that Jack thinks is wonderful-tasting. The cornbread comes in spicy and non-spicy. Go here for your fresh figs, seedless local watermelon, and cantaloupes from Pecos, TX.

St. Michael’s Farmers Market: Look out for fresh produce this week! Tomatoes, squash, purple hull peas, and cucumbers will be making an appearance at the market. There’ll also be all natural tamales, bread, honey, toffee, pies, and goat cheese. Paula Lambert from Mozz Co. will be there; Hudspeth Farms with fresh eggs, grass fed beef, pork, and chicken; and Rusty Tacos will be there with breakfast foods if you’re hungry.

  1. I bought a dozen Mother Shuckers brisket tacos a few weeks ago at St. Michaels. They were gone too fast. Will be back again this Saturday before it gets too hot. Just finishing the last of Mozzerella Co’s Praline Mascarpone Torta tonight watching the DNC. See you Saturday Paula! ;) xoxo
