I just received an email from Ryan Harvey, the restaurant manager at The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. I found the story charming.
Last night in the Mansion Restaurant, we were surprised to learn that we were going to have two couples joining us in the dining room that were celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary. We planned to sit them close together so that we could enlighten them with the news. Well, what took place next was truly amazing…
Prior to the couples arriving, Hugo [Reynoso, a server] approached me after greeting a table and says, “You are not going to believe what I am about to tell you!” It turns out that another two couples were sitting at a table together in the Library and celebrating their 53rd and 54th wedding anniversary! That made 3 separate couples married on the same EXACT day, August 29, 1959! (None of which knew each other prior). And the other couple married 1 year prior to the day, Aug. 29, 1958.
Once all guests had arrived, we asked for everyone’s attention in the Library, and I delighted everyone with the news of the “1 in a million” (or close to it) occurrence that was before us. Everyone was amazed, and the room erupted in applause. We popped a bottle of champagne and provided a toast to the couples.
After their dinner, we gathered them all for a group picture. Afterwards, they all reminisced and told the stories of their nuptials the day they all shared in common.
It was a evening we will not soon forget.
Come on, you gotta love it: that’s a celebration of 213 years of marriage! What are the future odds that this will happen again?
