August 27 Food Truck Schedule for Dallas/Fort Worth

I am running extraordinarily late today, so you get a very short summary:

Monday “Foodball” at Preston/Frankford is still going on.  Wednesday evening events at Sigels/Greenville and the Knox Ave. Crate & Barrel are ongoing, as is the Thursday evening “Bite Nights” in Addison.

In business news, sadly, Semplice Cibo Italiano (SCI) has turned in their truck.

Dallas-Based Kaurina’s Original Kulfi Wins National Award

Aman Singh has come a long way since he started making kulfi, a dense frozen custard similar to ice cream, in his garage. His Kaurina’s Original Kulfi bars were a popular item at this year’s Savor Dallas and they are currently available and several area grocery stores and markets. Now comes word: Kaurina’s Original Kulfi was awarded the 1st Place Grand Champions  for their Malai (cardamon flavored) bar in the “Open Class for Creative and Innovative Products” category at the World Dairy Expo Championship held in Madison, Wisconsin. I have a package in my freezer. They’re only 80 calories each. Congrats Aman!

Takeru Kobayashi is Participating in a Hot Dog Eating Contest at the Texas State Fair

Skinny little guy Takeru Kobayashi is a beast. The world champion eater recently signed on with Hofmann hot dogs as the new brand ambassador and business partner, and proved his loyalty to the brand by stuffing 110 of its dogs (bunless) down his throat in 10 minutes at the New York State Fair on Sunday afternoon. Kobi competed in a Hofmann shirt and head band, wearing what I can only guess are black-and-white plaid pajama pants that indicate where Japanese fashion is heading these days. The champ showed off his abs before he began setting a new hot dog record when, ten minutes later, Kobi’s flat washboard abs disappeared into a sexy pot belly. Yum.

But that’s not what we’re here to talk about today.

First Day of School: Bento Boxes for Kids

I just stumbled upon the cutest blog ever made for mommies, BentoLunch.net. Since today is the first day of school for most kids in Dallas, this means all you parents out there are packing school lunches every morning for your offspring. (Handing your kid a Lunchable doesn’t really count as putting in effort.) If you’re serious about packing healthy, nutritious lunches for your children, take a look at some of these ideas from Shannon Carino, BentoLunch.net blogger and extraordinaire.

Somebody Help This Poor Boy: Fearing’s Texas Mop Sauce

A Disher with a wife named Eve has hunted the aisles of food stores everywhere. He writes:

Nancy – I was wondering if you knew or if you could ask the great people on SideDish where one might be able to find Fearing’s Texas Mop Sauce.  You can buy it on-line from the Canyon Foods but I am trying to avoid the shipping costs.  Central Market used to carry it but for some reason I have been told they have stopped carrying it.  This stuff is very addicting and tough to cook a steak without it once you have tried it and unfortunately my last bottle has run dry.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We love it too because it reminds us of Shimmer!

KRLD Restaurant Week 2012: Server(s) of the Week

Stellar Servers: Clint Day and Nick Kotecki and of Bijoux.

Let’s raise our gold-plated Imperial flutes in a toast to server Nick Kotecki and sommelier Clint Day of Bijoux. These two provided stellar service during the madness of KRLD Restaurant Week. The dedicated Disher reports:

I have a picture of the server, Nick Kotecki, and the sommelier Clint Day, for you.  We had professional, friendly and overall wonderful service.  We loved the wine parings, the pork belly appetizer was fantastic as were the gnocchi, everyone was happy with their entrees and we all had the cheese course which was amazing! Thanks for recognizing great servers!
