This will be a rather light week for most of the food trucks. The two biggest events will be a July 4th celebration in Castle Hills on Wednesday evening, and the usual Addison “Bite Nights” on Thursday night.
With the high heat, many of the owner/operators are taking the time to refresh and take a vacation. Through July and August, a light schedule will be the norm.
Jump for your weekly schedule, and as usual, check Facebook and Twitter feeds before venturing out. Continue reading "July 1 Weekly Food Truck News and Schedule in Dallas/Ft. Worth"
Last night I drove past a Luby’s Cafeteria and had a random memory flashback. Anybody out there remember Miss Inez? She played the organ at Luby’s Cafeteria in Casa Linda. She also played for at The Dallas Eagles baseball team in the ‘40s and ‘50s and for The Dallas Black Hawks when I worked for them in the mid-‘70s. I did a quick internet search and found Miss Inez (Inez Lackie Teddlie) still has fans. She passed at in 2002 at the age of 91, but she has a Facebook page full of posts written by her many fans!
11 Comments »To gear you guys up for July’s Best Suburbs issue, I’m traveling to ten different ‘burbs in the DFW area for a semi-weird cross-city food tour. I’ll be documenting all my finds in these ‘Burbalicious posts that’ll be peppered throughout June and July. If you feel like your suburb deserves a shot at some SideDish love, email me and I’ll ask my Magic 8 ball if I should go. Last week, I ate pie in Roanoke.
There wasn’t any way I could complete all ten of these ‘Burbalicious posts without traveling to Parker, D Magazine’s numero uno suburb. I thought finding a restaurant in Parker would be a cinch, you know, given that it beat out Highland Park and Highland Village for the top spot in 2010 and 2012. Piece of cake, right? …wrong. So very wrong.

7 Comments »No more #2 burgers with unmelted cheese at Goff’s in Preston Valley Shopping Cener (LBJ & Preston), the joint closed on June 30. The University Park location is still open. Tippy Thai, a tiny BYOB spot, and Mangiamo Italian Restaurant, a full-service restaurant will open soon.
Just up Preston at Royal I noticed a sign for Saucy’s Thai & Pho over the door next to Natalie’s in the southwest corner of Preston Royal Shopping Center. Also Nando’s, the Veracruz-style restaurant in the space formerly known as Cava/Le Rendezvous, is now open for business. Former Gloria’s employee Fernando Santo is teaming up with his mother Blanco Husca. She was the chef at The Original Mexican Café (“The Original”) in Galveston.
Hey restaurants, who’s open tomorrow? There’s a population of lazy people out there who need a good dose of take-out or sit-down since they’re not into the whole barbecue thing. So, restaurants, if you’re open, let us know in the comments below.
Jump for my very short list of open and closed places.
