Several events coming up this week. Let’s start with the most cause-worthy: a noon event on Thursday benefiting Hope Cottage (4209 McKinney). Food trucks in attendance include Easy Slider, Jack’s Chowhound, Trailercakes, and Three Lions.
The Arts District “Patio Sessions” continues this Thursday evening with Cajun Tailgators, Dos Paisanos, Four Seasons, and Enticed.
On Friday the 13th, from 5pm to 10pm, you’ll have lots of choices at the “Deep Ellum Food Truck Rally.” The Deep Ellum Community Association has joined forces with the Deep Ellum Outdoor Market to coordinate shutting down Main St. from Malcolm X Blvd to Crowdus in order to try to bring more street life back to that area. Planned food trucks include Easy Slider, Munch Box, Little Vessel, Rock & Roll Taco, Zombies Food Truck, Rockstar Baskeshop, Cajun Tail Gators, Three Lions, and the Bacon Wagon.
So-Cal Tacos and Nammi will be out at Texas Motor Speedway both Friday and Saturday.
Ciclovia de Dallas 2012 will take place on April 14 from 9am to 3pm. Ride your bike or skate from downtown to Oak Cliff and back again via the Houston Street Viaduct Bridge. Food trucks include The Butcher’s Son and RockStar BakeShop.
Update: TX Delizioso will be at The Food Truck Experience at Sigel’s/Greenville on Wednesday.
And here is your schedule for the week of April 9. As always, check Facebook, Twitter, and The Weather Report. Continue reading "Your April 9th Food Truck Schedule in Dallas and Fort Worth"

20 Comments »I wondered if you might be able to assist. The last time I bought a really fancy birthday cake was when Doughmonkey in Snider Plaza still existed. I remember it fondly: a shocking turquoise dome with a Curacao liqueur glaze and orange chocolate filling. It was a great bargain at under $50 too. Now I find myself in need of an impressive cake again, but don’t know where to look. I am not in the market for a trompe l’oeil sculpture smothered in fondant, just a really delicious but fancy and beautiful cake, preferably under $50 or so. Any ideas?

The raging trend of underground dinners, secret supper clubs, and pop-up restaurants continue. The most recent chef up, I should say under, is John Tesar. While he waits to finalize details on Spoon, the restaurant he plans for Preston Center, he’s keeping in culinary shape by hosting a series of underground dinners. Last Saturday night, Tesar popped up at The Milestone Culinary Center where a sell-out crowd of around 55 people got up close and personal with JT. The menu was classic Tesar with a few novelty acts thrown in. The wine was classic Scott Barber.
Below, every picture tells the story. Continue reading "John Tesar Hosts an Underground Dinner"

If you’re anything like me, then chances are pretty high you indulged in a little too much sugar over the holiday weekend. Here’s an easy way to get back on track while providing a jumpstart to your week. You’ve probably heard about the recent juicing craze and may be ready to dismiss it as a fad, but I encourage you to try it before you do so! Juicing provides an excellent way to effortlessly add a lot of vegetables to your diet which will boost your energy and benefit your body in a lot of different ways. (Google it if you don’t believe me!) Juicing breaks down the cell walls of the vegetables and removes the fiber to make a nutritious drink that can be quickly and efficiently digested, and absorbed by your body. Although the taste can take a little while to get used to, the apple helps sweeten the flavor, providing a refreshing drink that can be enjoyed by anyone looking for an extra boost. I drink my green juice every morning on my way to work, but you can enjoy yours at any time, as long as it’s consumed on an empty stomach. There are many different juice recipes out there, but this is my favorite one due to its high content of veggies, minimal sugar, and zesty flavor.
Jump for the recipe. Continue reading "Vegan Fresh: A Zesty Recipe for Juice Drinkers"
7 Comments »It starts at 6:00 p.m. The bread baker arrives in the kitchen, and the mixing begins. Two hours later, the rest of the baking staff arrives. A metal scooper dives deep into an industrial-sized sack of flour and dusts the surface of the countertops, prepping them for pastries: first the croissants, then the muffins, then the brioche. Nothing goes into the oven until 10:00 p.m.; long after the Main Street Bread Baking Company storefront has closed for the night. On weekdays Pierre, the head baker, pushes through the back doors of the kitchen at 2:00 a.m. to oversee the final stages of production amid the scent of leavening, melting chocolate, pastry cream, and almond.
