ANNIKA Foundation Dinner A Delicious and Indulgent Success

Cinnamon Dusted Duck Breast with Vanilla Bean Cous Cous from Chef Sara Horowitz

Last night the Park Cities Club was packed with golf enthusiasts, wine aficionados and happy eaters for an eight course wine dinner featuring Hall of Fame Golfer Annika Sorenstam’s Annika wine, poured side by side with Coquerel Family Wine Estates, all to benefit the ANNIKA Foundation.

Creating this impressive meal were Chefs Teiichi Sakurai of Tei-An, John Tesar of The Commissary and El Paso based Chef Sara Horowitz, best known for her competitiveness on either Hell’s Kitchen on Fox or Best in Smoke on The Food Network.  There are a lot of wine dinners in Dallas, and last night was a true delight as these masterful chefs presented ideal pairings course after course.   Continue reading "ANNIKA Foundation Dinner A Delicious and Indulgent Success"

Fuel City is destined to become the second most famous grassy knoll in Dallas.

And it took them this long because? Fuel City, once the most undiscovered street taco in Dallas, is now the most overrated street taco in Dallas. And they have a patio and a PR agency to prove it.

Did you know the recipes for the tacos originated in Durango, Mexico? Read all about it. (Bonus point: Do we still have presses to stop?)

Ate it for $8: Outta the Oven Café and Bakery in Addison

Kristy Alpert files this report.

Overview: Luckily for Outta the Oven, the place I had originally planned on reviewing was closed for renovations and this all-natural bakery was in my sights as my lunch mate threw one of his famous I’m-so-freaking-hungry-get-me-food- now hissy fits. I’d heard rave reviews of their cakes and thumbprint cookies, but I had yet to hear anyone mention their menu items in their café. So, on a whim, I pulled in and stepped into an odd mix of aromas: freshly brewed coffee, sautéed onion, and cake frosting.

Menu: From panini and salads to quiche and muffins, Outta the Oven Café and Bakery offers a pretty nice range of breakfast and lunch items with some outstanding baked goods and pastries. They’re known for their elaborate and moist layered cakes but their petit fours are both adorable and delectable. I rarely have time for breakfast in the morning (aside from a banana or cup of yogurt), so the fact that they serve breakfast until 3PM makes it easy for people like me (read: not morning people) to get their toast or pancake fix in, even if it is later in the day!

Restaurants Beware: New Order Scam is Making the Rounds

Last year,  hundreds of restaurants in the U.S. were ripped off by a caller who placed a large catering order to be picked up by a delivery service. The caller instructed the restaurant to add a $500 to the credit card bill and give it to the delivery service. I know it sound ludicrous that anyone would fall for this, but obviously some folks did.

This morning comes word that a new scam is making the rounds. This time, it’s switched to an email:

How are you doing today? This Mr. John Morgan speaking, I will like to place an order to go, can i speak with the owner about the order? My Mom birthday is coming up on the 20th of October and i will like to place an order for 150 grill chicken sandwich with salad individual pack for the 150 guest, It will be pick up by 3pm on the given date, So can i know the price per person and the total cost for the order plus tax. Can i have your full restaurant address and your name so i can forward to the carrier that will be coming for the pick up of the order once the food is ready by 3pm on the given date and i want you to promise me and assure me you going to prepaire (sic) the food nice and delicious.

If you get this email and fall for it, I have no sympathy for you. If you get one, let me know.
