Dallas’ Own Hans “Grizz” Van Der Enden Wins Whole Foods’ 2011 Meatopia Title

The Whole Foods resignation letter of doom fiasco of 2011 did little to dampen the store’s national cleaver-slinging face-off: the Whole Foods Market’s Best Butcher Competition. In short, Whole Foods Market butchers from around the nation competed in each region, ultimately participating in the 2011 Amstel Light Meatopia event in New York City. Why do we care? Because Dallas’ own Hans “Grizz” Van Der Enden won the coveted title, which comes with a cleaver trophy and bragging rights, as well as an all-expenses-paid trip to Iceland to be part of that country’s festive fall lamb round-up event, réttir.

Bill teaches Colby about expensive meal worms.

Shoot me for being self-indulgent but I wanted to share this picture I took of my bluebirds. Yes, they are mine because for four years the male and female have returned to my house to breed. This year they have only produced two broods. Here we have Bill, the dad, teaching his young son, Colby, how to use the meal worm feeder.

Christopher Baccus loves cars and gas station tacos. We find that very attractive.

Dishers, Christopher Baccus is  a taco junkie and blogger. Not just any kind of taco, primarily those found in or near gas stations. Last week he took you there. This week he takes you here.

I walked into the Flash Mart convenience store located on Walnut Hill at I-35 and turned to my right. I walked over to a purple wall with a door.  I wasn’t sure what was going on. I  exited the mart and walked across the store front passing a small wine section that must have been what the door inside was all about and then came to a glass door leading into Taqueria el Guache.
