Reflections on Brunch at NOSH. A Few Words, Some Pictures, A Little Pining

Watermelon tomato salad with balsamic reduction at NOSH. (Photo by Sarah Reiss)

We do so love a good brunch in this town. We love planning for it; we love that first read through the menu; we appreciate a good presentation; and, of course, we love talking about each bite while we’re eating it. So when Chef Jon Stevens invited me over on Sunday to check out the latest version of NOSH‘s weekend brunch menu, I was anxious to see how many of the aforementioned points he and his staff would be able to make good on.

We sat at the kitchen counter so that we could watch preparation. From this vantage point, I had the opportunity to photograph a couple dishes (the watermelon tomato salad at right and the slice of baby ice below) that I did not have the opportunity to taste. If you have tasted either one, be sure to chime in in the comments section.

Fire Damages Decanter Restaurant in Oak Cliff

I got a message late Friday that Decanter Restaurant was on fire. I tried to call the restaurant all weekend and finally sent an email. Najam Jaffri, the general manager sends this note:

Yes, there was a fire in our attic because of a short circuit caused by TXU’s faulty wire outside our building. Fire department took care of the fire and secured our property in the most professional manner. Thanks to our most wonderful landlord Jim Lake and his staff we were up and running within 24 hours, the kind of damage we had usually it takes weeks and months to get back in business. Thank you for your concern please let your readers know we are open for business.

Galleria in Dallas Plans a New Restaurant: Townhouse

The press release touts Townhouse, the new restaurant set to open in the Galleria in late August, as a “fun destination for diners across North Texas.” It will be, like so many or you, “sophisticated yet relaxed.” You won’t be able to miss it, they plan to plant 35-foot “embalmed palm trees” along a walkway (see groovy photo). The entrance will have “upgraded lighting” that will “give guests a sense of arrival.” Food? Yes, they will serve it. The last line of the press release reads: “Townhouse’s uniquely designed menu offers a large selection of small plates, sandwiches, salads and entrees to suit any taste.”
