This is EPIC! Cannot wait. We’re bringing (almost)all of the joys of California to Dallas. Most excellent! In-N-Out and Trader Joe’s-what more could a girl want?
@NSD – agreed! Epic. I’m officially more excited about two-buck chuck than I am about ordering something, anything, “animal style”
Not too excited myself. I recall reading a story about people who would travel across the country to eat at Steak and Shake. Now they’re all over the DFW area and several locations have already closed. I was in Maryland last year and visited a Trader Joe’s for the first time and left without buying anything. Last year while attending a conference in Albuquerque, one attendee from Atlanta was excited about dining at a Whataburger because he had heard so much about them. Get over it…
If we could get an El Bulli that would be awesome.
FINALLY. Now if we could just get another Round Table Pizza (after its too-quick departure from McKinney), my life would be complete. LOL
If a Trader Joe’s appear near me, then I will have all I need ! I used to shop there when I lived in Chicago and loved the stores.
Trader Joe’s – pretty please Uptown, Knox Henderson or downtown
The old Whole Foods building on Greenville Ave. would be great for a Trader Joe’s.
Trader Joe’s in Dallas? Unbelievable news! Hooorahh!
@Jim. They’d do fantastic there. And, it’s not far from me.
sorry to disappoint but 2 buck chuck is swill…however TJ’s is the sole importer of a Hungarian wine called ‘Bull’s Blood that @ $4 is a true find..prolly wont be that when it gets here..& my other really likes TJ’s soups
All we need now is So Cal’s oceans, mountains and deserts and we’ll have it all.
Koo Koo Roo from CA and Blue Bottle Coffee…
Details………when and where???? Love TJ’s
Whole Foods empty space on Greenville would be awesome, but Whole Foods owns the property as of when they closed and would not lease out to a competitor
Woo Hoo!!!!! Bring it to Allen !!!! Need more than one store I guarantee!
That’s exactly where it’s going Jim.
Second the request for Round Table Pizza and throwing one in for Wahoo’s Fish Taco
[...] the news that Trader Joe’s has decided to bring its peculiar brand of grocery stores to Texas, I [...]
[...] This is the best news ever. I love everything about Trader Joe’s, minus the inescapably long lines at their cramped Union Square location and the slightly creepy/ultra friendly employees who only seem to hit on me when I’ve just come from the gym. The line issue will surely be remedied by whatever gigantic space they find here. Still, be warned. Two-Buck Chuck is actually more like Three-Buck-Chuck, and it’s not very tasty. You can do better with their other selections for under $4. [...]
I hope they take over the ****ty uptown Alberstons. As for what’s next, I’d like a Publix
Oh happy day!!!!! More healthy/fresh dining options a la Urth Caffe. Oh! And a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
@Steven Doyle. Steve, that would great if indeed, they moved into the old Wholefoods on lower Greenville but, that contradicts Lauren’s comment.
I know you’re the man who usually knows about these things but, how sure are you?
McKinney is begging for a store near Eldorado and Custer. Lots of former customers from all over the country near there just waiting for TJ’s to come to town so we can have our old favorites back! Great, interesting food at excellent prices! Pretty please!
I vote for somewhere on Davis St.!
Yeah, TJ’s has the best Belgian chocolate for baking. Now all they need here is Wegmans and Vineyard and Vines and maybe some Carolina beaches!
I think, if they’re successful with one, and I see no reason why they shouldn’t be, they’ll open many more.
There’s lots of room in the DFW area to support them.
What about the old Border’s Bookstore space in the West Village?!?!
Borders space at Preston royal! Ample parking, plenty of space and great location.
@Steven Doyle. To second the comment of twinwillow, how do you know it’s going into the WF space on Greenville? Last I heard, WF has the lease until 2013 and will not lease to a grocery store. I would be ecstatic if it goes there but I doubt it based on the existing lease term and apathy by the building owner.
@twin: Very sure.
Steve, Channel 5 news announced tonight their first store was going to be in the former Borders Books store at Preston Royal.
@twinwillow — I looked on channel 5’s site and didn’t see reference to Preston Royal. Has it been confirmed that it’s going in that space?
I spoke to someone involved last week and they said that location will be used fo sho.
Mr. Doyle, you spoke to someone last week and said that was the location? Why didn’t you report this? Why do you always sweep in at the end of a story and say you knew along? Who is the someone? So easy to say without backup. Give us a name and make yourself credible.
@help: I watched their 6:00 news and they even showed a reporter standing in front of the store. Try to watch at 10:00PM tonight. I will too.
@Steven Doyle: Steve, believe me. I hope you’re right and I’m wrong.
This is all I could find on KXAS’ website. They did not mention anything definitive other than they were looking for a location.

Just watched the KXAS 10:00 news on channel 5. Although shorter in content than the 6:00 news, they did suggest (with pictures) that the leading choice for TJ’s first location in Dallas would be the Borders Book’s at Preston Forest. I didn’t know there was a Borders at Preston Forest. I thought it was at Preston Royal. Am I mistaking it for a different bookstore?
Yup! I was confusing Border’s at Preston Forest with Barnes & Noble at Preston Royal.
It’s Border’s at Preston Forest that they mentioned.
Sorry for any confusion.
Well Trader Joe’s officially says it has not settled on any location. The guy speaking on channel 5 last night was I believe some local “real estate expert” who just pointed out that obviously the sad demise of Borders has left some really prime real estate catering to TJ’s demographic open. Yes, I am voting for West Village Borders space too -it’s the only thing that could console me for losing the closest bookstore.
Ride em. I was told this off the record. I wouldn’t have mentioned at all except to state the location. I did not report any of this on my own site. Thanks for thinking of me though.
Wahooooo… now all we need is a coffee bean and tea leaf, and maybe some rubios or Wahoos, and we will have the best of Cali….
JOE JOES!!!!!
Two words: Claim Jumper Restaurant
http://www.claimjumper.com/
One word: Roundtable Pizza
@TLS: I like how you think.
Meh, bring back Pantera’s Pizza
[...] The empty Border’s Books location will not become Trader Joe’s, soon it will become the ninth location—fifth in DFW– of Central Market. If you don’t believe me, jump for the official announcement. [...]
@Steven Doyle. I’m beginning to doubt your adamant prediction of Trader Joe’s going into the old Greenville Ave. Wholefoods space because of the information in the following link:

As an original Pronto shopper (there’s got to be a few of you out there),words cannot express my joy that TJ’s will be anywhere within driving distance.Though if the first one goes in West Village, than it’s only fair that the next one be built north of LBJ.
In-N-Out Burger made me happy, TJ’s ecstatic and I will be happy again if Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf makes its’ way here from Austin.
