Get Tickets Now For 2011 Dallas Wine Trail Grand Tasting

“The wineries in Dallas are not the oldest, or the biggest, or the fanciest,
but when it comes to the wine,
Dallas made wines are some of the best wines made in the USA.
We invite you to taste them and see for yourself.” – Drink Dallas

On May 7, Drink Dallas’ third annual Dallas Wine Trail Grand Tasting invites you to tipple at the region’s top wineries. For a mere $39 per person, Dallas Wine Trail Grand Tasting participants will receive three tastes each at each of this year’s four wineries, as well as 19.5-ounce crystal Dallas Wine Trail wine glass, food pairings at each winery, a free bottle of wine to take home, and a Dallas Wine Trail map. This year’s wineries are: Calais Winery (3000 Commerce St.), FUQUA Winery (3737 Atwell St.), Inwood Estates (1350 Manufacturing St.), and Times Ten Cellars (6324 Prospect Ave.) This is not only fun, but offers a great opportunity to visit with our local wine makers. The event has sold out in the past, and tickets won’t be available at the door, so visit Dallas Wine Trail now to secure your spot.

Eating Peanut Butter Out of the Jar Does Not Count As “Cooking for One”

Every time the mr. goes on a business trip, I get these pie-in-the-sky ideas of calling up friends and making dinner dates all over town. But, after a day in the editorial trenches, I’m often too beat to even pick up the phone. Flash forward to dinner time when instead of swanning all over town, I end up laying on the couch with a bowl of leftover spaghetti or (as I did last night) standing in front of the refrigerator eating Skippy with a tablespoon.

I never said this was going to be pretty.

Now, I don’t have a problem going to a restaurant by myself, in fact, I love eating at the bar—it’s friendly, communal, and usually comes with some great people watching.

So tell me, where are your favorite places to eat when you’re flying solo? Do you know of any restaurants with true community tables where singletons can dine together? (No fast food, though. I do have to draw a line somewhere.)

Sitting on Sawhorses and Coolers? Twisted Root Burger Tries Out Shipping and Tailgating Themes in Two New Locations

Twisted Root‘s proprietor/chef/bartender/busboy, Jason Boso, has announced plans to open two locations in the area. The first will open this month in Plano’s The Shops at Legacy, and the second is set to open in Arlington this September.

The Shops at Legacy location will feature a transportation shipping yard theme where guests will order food from inside a shipping container and sit on sawhorse chairs and shipping pallet benches. Open garage doors will lead to a patio that can accommodate approximately 60 guests.

Twisted Root Burger in Arlington will feature a tailgate theme, complete with Weber Grill tables, tailgate bench seating, and beer coolers as chairs. A large patio will accommodate about 70 patrons and feature two large projection screens for watching “Dancing with the Stars, Jersey Shore and oh yeah, some sports too,” adds Boso.

In addition to the new locations, Twisted Root is upgrading its menu with a couple new items. The Surf and Turf Burger starts with a beef patty and a melted slice of brie topped with a large fried prawn and horseradish aioli. The new Big Pimp’n French Fries dress up the regular fries with a toss in some clarified butter and the decadent addition of white truffle oil and aged parmesan shavings.
