Good 2 Go Taco Has Killer First Weekend

Good 2 Go Taco reopened in its new space just a few days ago. I popped in to see how things were going and had one of those delightful experiences that makes me happy to live in our neck of East Dallas.

First, the food: I ordered a Swine Bleu taco (pictured), which, at $4, was more than I could finish. The braised pork was topped with a bleu cheese slaw that provided a crunchy counterpoint to the moist meat. Very solid. For now, they are serving a limited menu. The lunch options on the Afternoon Delight menu also include Curry in a Hurry (bok choy and shiitake in yellow coconut curry), Picadillo Circus (picadillo beef, pinto, queso, rice), and Hotlanta (waffle-battered chicken, sweet potatoes, honey butter). Each is $4. The tacos on the Rise & Shine breakfast menu are $3.50. The first one I’ll eat next week will be the Paris, Texas (grilled hangar steak, egg, spinach, charred tomato hollandaise).

Which brings me to the dining experience. The place was packed. I spotted two neighbors I know. And I made a new friend named Emily. When she ordered her tacos and surveyed the full tables, she told owner Jeana that the place needs a communal table. To which Jeana replied, “They are all communal tables. Sit wherever you want.” Jeana told Emily to sit with me. I was unshowered and wearing a sweatshirt with an assault rifle on it and the words: “Defend Dallas.” “Don’t worry,” Jeana told her. “He’s cool.” I learned all this at the end of our lunch together, during which Emily and I figured out that she went to Hockaday with a cousin of mine and we both knew some of the same people. Then we had a pretty funny conversation about religion. Like I said, it was a delight.

In short, we got ourselves a winner. On the way out I grabbed an Americano ($2.25) from the in-house coffee shop called Stir. Those guys have something special going, too, which deserves its own post at a later point.

  1. Jeana also told me that the owner of Vickery Tavern on Henderson is planning on opening a bar in the space next door. Prohibition has ended in East Dallas

  2. I’m not living in Dallas anymore, but I’m so happy to see these ladies in their very own space. I wish them much success!

  3. A bar next door is genius, it wouldn’t have to fight with Good2Go for parking. Any chance it will be called the Texas Trap?

  4. Yahoo! I had a divine dining experience there myself. So glad these two fantastic women are back in business!
On the communal seating, will people PLEASE be courteous to each other and not try to grab a table when you are at the back of the line and haven’t ordered? There’s plenty of room for everyone if people behave!

  5. I went this morning (too early to have a Swine Bleu, boo!) and loved it! The Paris, Texas was incredible, and after sampling a cappucino went back for a cortado from Stir. Delicious!

  6. I’d be interested to see how their first weekend went now that they’ve moved further from White Rock Lake. I went opening day and the place was packed the whole time I sat there eating my late-ish lunch (splitting Swine Bleu and Curry in a Hurry with a friend), so I would think their weekend was probably out of control.

  7. Big thanks to the Good2Go gals for starting what we hope will become a Peavy Road Renaissance. And tacos!

  8. Can I get b-fast tacos all day? (could not previously).

Also, how many starving kids did Mr. Rogers jump in front of to get these tacos? I demand an investigation by the DMN(too soon?)

  9. This is awesome for East Dallas. Everyone should also check out Flaming Burger on Garland Road (in front of Home Depot). Recently opened by a former manager of Jakes, it features amazing burgers (as good as Jakes used to be). Lots of great places to go in East Dallas now!

  10. I skipped my run and went to get a taco at 7:15 am figuring the rush would start that morning. When I got there, there were 5 people there. Not a lot but a lot for 7:15 am! The ladies were super cool as usual. I finally ordered the Paris, TX and it was amazing. It was too much for breakfast so I saved it for lunch. Grabbed a hot chocolate from Stir and it was fantastic. One concern would be the parking. Did anyone have a problem when it was crowded?

  11. I heard there is this other great new spot in East Dallas called The Rogers Situation but only open to affluent, white people – all others are put on “the waiting list” for eternity. There is a sculpture of Tim Roger’s abs in the bathroom.

  12. @ smart alex

I’ve been searching for my Tim Rogers ab sculpture for like 7 weeks and am thankful that it has turned up, that’s for the tip.

  13. Tried to go there for lunch today but they were closed!
    Oh well, another time.

  14. Went this Saturday and the tacos, as always, were very good. Stir coffee was great as well. Seating situation, however, was awful. They could definitely fit more seating in the space. Benches would have been a better idea.

  15. @cbs: Never too soon. Very solid.

@smart alex: Doing crunches as I type this.

  16. If there was a bar in the Texas Trap space I’d weep with joy. Please let it be true!

@Twinwillow – Their FB page said they’re closed on Mondays and after 3:00 every day.

  17. Margie, it was a “spur of the moment” thing. I did not read anywhere that they were closed Mondays. Monday is my day off too. And they’re not the only place (including mine) that’s closed Mondays as I’ve discovered a long time ago.
Plus, I don’t read or participate on Face Book or any other social network sites. Outside of my many blogs, I’m a very private person.
I guess that’ll give away my age, won’t it.
