We had so many delicious appetizer recipe entries in our Central Market Recipe Contest that our friends at Central Market picked a winner and a runner-up. Congratulations to our winner, Jill Housewright, for her Winter Roll Ups recipe, and to our runner-up, Michael Doherty, for his Squash Carpaccio recipe! (We love our vegetarians.) They’ve both won a $100 gift certificate to Central Market!
Don’t forget, the rest of you still have a chance to win. We have three more Central Market gift certificates to give away. This week, we’re accepting recipe entries for probably the trickiest part of the holiday meal: the main course. Show off your best culinary skills, and submit your favorite holiday Main Course recipe after the jump.
What’s better than Saturday shopping for the holidays in December? Several intrepid souls decided it would be a better idea to take a tour of local taquerias in a groovy school bus. The agent provocateur was Critic’s Guide writer, Steven Doyle. You know Steven. He’s the one who recently conducted the 2010 Dallas Burger Tour. We armed ourselves with coolers of beer and wine (and even a saber-wielding Champagne decapitator) and headed out to sample seven of the alleged best in Dallas.

Oh no, say it isn’t so! Coast Global Seafood, the lovely restaurant designed by Paul Draper in the Shops at Legacy, will close its beautiful doors on December 20. Proprietor Richard (Nicola’s) Gussoni cites the “struggling economy and anticipated demand sources that did not materialize.”
This is so weird to me. Why do all of the places on the south side so many places in the Shops at Legacy do so well? I mean there is an hour-wait at Seasons 52? Isn’t Wyland’s Ocean Blue going in somewhere around there? Perhaps the promise of a hotel that never materialized behind the fabulous fountain is the reason. Sad. I hate to say it but this month could be full of closures.
A loyal Disher reports, sadly, that Caroline Galvan-Rodriguez has closed Taco Mundo in Fort Worth. Location, location, location? Probably. All reports of the food were excellent. I called Rodriguez’s Carrollton spot, Carolina’s Mexican Cuisine, but the number is also disconnected.
I wish Caroline Galvan-Rodriguez had opened only one restaurant instead of trying to do three (four?) at one time. She obviously has talent and ginormous huevos, but she bit off more than she could chew.
Have you downloaded D Magazine’s FREE D Recommends iPhone app? If not, here’s how. We’d love to hear ANY feedback.
This morning I came across this list of popular “food apps for foodies.” I like the idea of Locavore but I haven’t actually downloaded it to see how well it works. Do you use food-related apps? If so, share with us the good, bad, and the ugly. The first person who makes me laugh will receive a Godiva chocolate-scented candle. For real. Bring it.
