Forking Around So far for RW this year, we’ve been to several different restaurants, and last night my wife and I visited Hibiscus. All others were good, but Hibiscus was the Best! The service, food and atmosphere are always perfect! Luckily their RW menu was not a chopped up, smaller portioned version of their regular menu with extra priced add-ons like some menus we have perused when trying to make a decision about where to go this year. Conversely, Hibiscus took the high road and showcased some of their regular menu specialties which were delish! They had the regular menu available as well, but we didn’t need it because everything we wanted was on the RW menu…dungeness crab dip, prime filet, the best mac & cheese anywhere and that decadent ice box pie :)) We love Hibiscus and it’s been a favorite of ours for years, and last night they proved once again how the good operators make the right decisions when given choices and we appreciate that and will be back again and again. Kareem A. This is the second year I’ve participated in Restaurant Week and most of the places my friends and I visited have provided wonderful experiences. Hibiscus, Abacus, Fearing’s and Pappa’s Steakhouse all provided OUTSTANDING food and service. None of them treated us poorly even though we’re a small group of friends who normally don’t dine at such fine establishments. Along with highly recommending these places to everyone we know for their fine dining needs, we’ve been back several times outside of Restaurant Week because of how enjoyable they made our first time visits with them. III Forks, on the other hand, was a disaster. We went for RW last year and had horrible service, mediocre food and pathetic dessert. They are the exact type of restaurant described in the D Magazine article which one must absolutely avoid for RW. And just because of that RW experience, guess what kind of feedback my friends and I have given everyone we know since? Stay away! ldascha My family enjoyed, Canary Cafe in Addison this week. All the courses were outstanding, wonderful salad and appetizer choices; and three entree choices, we had the pork chop and the seafood. The chef made his rounds and made everyone welcome; very nice RW value and experience. Sparky Went to Central 214 last night. They were pushing the upsells hard last night (extra appetizers and one extra entree on the menu, for an extra charge), including providing us the regular menu in addition to the RW menu “just in case.” Service was a notch to a notch-and-a-half below normal, from one attempt to give us another table’s entrees before we had our appetizer, to giving us our entrees before we had that course’s wine pairing. This was all the more puzzling since the place was busy, but not packed. But the food was good, as expected, and overall a great experience. TJ Lover Nick & Sam’s last night. Had a 8:30 reservation. My party of four was not seated till 9:45. Very very frustrating. Did receive a $60 bottle of wine for free and our drinks at the bar while waiting were comped. Manager was exceptionally apologetic but the long wait just set a bad tone for our dinner. Food was good as always, and the service was good. Wasn’t my decision to dine here for restaurant week, was the boyfriends. Still say Nick & Sam’s is not my favorite steakhouse in Dallas. Won’t be doing RW here ever again.
