Newport’s Seafood in the Brewery Building near downtown has closed. Sad. It was open for over 25 years.

I’m so sorry Steven. I have such good memories waiting tables at Newports for 10 years. Another loss for Dallas.

I agree. Always a friendly place to eat. Sad loss

This was one of the finest seafood restaurants in Dallas. It was never recognized like it should have been.

I’m so sad to hear it! Steve, I hope you’re ok overall, and please contact me if I can be of help with anything.

What a bummer! I have some unredeemed gift certificates to Newport. Was so looking forward to redeeming them, esp. after all the wonderful things I had heard.
Best of luck to all.

Not only was the food very good, the overall decor was easily ahead of it’s time and perfect for the area.
Come to think of it, the restaurant itself was, ahead of it’s time.

Agreed, sad.
I remember, sometime around 1988, taking a co-worker there on a surreptitious first date — only to find out the next day that someone else from our department had been sitting unnoticed two tables away….

When I worked downtown, this was a favorite lunch spot. And great key lime pie.
The open well did always creep me out and the waiter once told me it was fairly deep past the visible water line, which gave me dining nightmares of little kids falling in.

I never had a bad meal there, always a solid dining experience.

I wish people paid more attention to the restaurant while it was open! It seems that the focus is always on the newest and trendiest/hip thing. Newport’s was old world class.

I never did get to see that well…
