Lola is Closed: Reports of The Last Supper

Sadly, Lola served its last meal on Saturday night. If you were there, we’d love to hear about your meal. Otherwise, let’s take a moment to “sign their yearbook” as it were. Leave details of your favorite meal or memory of Lola in the comments. This is a great loss for the Dallas dining scene. Van Roberts, you and chef David Uygur and crew created real magic together.

This first time I went to Lola I was single and dating a chef. He took me the tasting room. The boy didn’t work out, but my romance with Lola lasted for years. Thanks, Lola. You were always a great partner on a Saturday night.

My favorite Lola memory was the night my now husband proposed to me in the Tasting Room nearly 2 years ago. Afterwards we sipped champagne and enjoyed our first hour of being engaged alone in the Tasting Room. Later our families joined us to celebrate over a fantastic meal. We will miss Lola!

Being given a tour of the wine cellar by Van. It’s the only restaurant wine cellar in Dallas that needs GPS to navigate.

My husband proposed to me there last year…we had a great table at the large bay window & a fabulous meal! Thanks for the memories Lola! You will be missed!

First I want to commend Van and David for the best restaurant in Dallas, period. I never heard any kind of kitchen scandal, no wine markups, nothing. It was a honestly great restaurant all the way around. The wine list was lengendary in its size and pricing. The meals prepared by David Uygar and Michael Marusak were exquisite. My wife and I were sad to see them go as we celebrated several of our momentous occasions in our life there (anniversaries, new jobs, etc). My wife and I did manage to get in the weekend of the 24th of October before it had closed. I saw several local foodies there the same night. Everyone was relishing the last meal. It will be missed.

What was the name of the crazy brit that owned it before Van Roberts? Nick something? He won the caesar salad competition with a blue cheese rendition. The food and service were good when Nick owned it. We were happy it kept up the pace when Van bought it.Van waited on us many times and always pulled a great wine option at a nice price <$100.

Don’t forget the other chefs that worked at Lola over the years, like Jamie Samford, Scott Gottlich, Matt Bresnan, Blaine Staniford, and James Halim, many of whom went on to helm restaurants of their own (Bijoux and Iris being the most notable).

Well, congrats to an amazing team for a fine legacy of taste. Of course it’s exceedingly rare to bring together all the elements of a great restaurant, and it was a privilege to benefit from Lola’s attention to detail at all levels. It was a tradition for me to take serious first dates to Lola–where the food, wine, service, and environs were always close to perfect. It seems fitting that my romance with Lola has ended just as my first dates have ended. In three weeks I am marrying the woman I first took to Lola three years ago. And so she and I, now engaged, headed back to Lola recently to toast the restaurant, thank the staff, and together move into the next chapter of our lives. Thank you to everyone at Lola.

We enjoyed the tasting menu on Saturday night and each dish was more beautiful than the last. It was sadly my first and only Lola experience, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Our dinner companions were serious about the food and wine so we enjoyed the experience to its fullest. Van was in a fantastic mood and very generous with his wine cellar. Our waiter had been at Lola for 10 years and admitted to being “picky” about his next job. I would be too!
