Somebody Help This Poor Boy: Chilean Restaurant

hasselhoffsloshed2I’ve already told him you can find bits (bites?) of Chile at La Duni, Zaguan, and Stephan Pyles, but he wants more.

Do you know of any Chilean restaurant in DFW (empanadas, etc.)?  It’s kind of hard to Google “Chile” and DFW without Google thinking of the pepper and not the country.

Silly Google. We’re smarter than Google.

Don Panza, in The OC, is Argentinian. Without comment on territorial issues, that is close. The empanadas are addictive.

Is Don Panza currently open? I saw a note that they are closed until November when they will open at a new location. Their website is not working either.

  • Nancy Nichols

I thought Don Panza was gone. Thanks for the reminder.

    Try Gran Machu Picchu

but I don’t think they have empanadas.

Thanks, CoB. Apparently to a Cliff Dweller I just corresponded with, their answering machine has a message saying that they are moving to Beckley Ave. and will have a name change. It doesn’t say whether the present site has closed. The web site has been down for months so I would not read too much into that.

One place for empanadas that is open is Inca Cafe in Carrollton.

Don Panza is moving to 1116 N Beckley Ave across from Spiral Diner and Beckley Brewhouse. They will be changing their names it stated on their telephone recording. I would look in the shopping center across Beckley from Spiral Diner at the corner of Zang and Beckley.
214-514-1184 is the new telephone number.

I would say that the Peruvian inspired Inca’s Cafe is the closest thing we have to Chilean cuisine. It is not an exact match but might suffice. I do know that the ceviche de pescado is very good at Inca’s Cafe. They also have empanadas as Worzel had stated.

If you are not into Inca’s Cafe a few blocks away at Trinity Mills and Marsh is El Portal a Colombian cafe. They have awesome almojabanas (cheese bread), milhojas (a pastry) and their daily lunch plates are quite good.

This is all great information for me as coincidentally, I just started a topic on Chowhound.com asking about restaurants in Dallas serving empanadas. Other than, On The Border. Don Panza was mentioned as the best.

    Who is, “he”?

  • Billusa99

If the Peruvian-inspired Inca’s Cafe is the closest thing we have to Chilean cuisine, does that mean that the Italian-inspired Olive Garden is the closest thing we have to Tibetan cuisine?

    Sheeeeeesh….

  • Balonpie

Empanadas at On The Border? You have got to be kidding me! Whose border? Peru’s Argentina’ Bolivia?

  • Jessica

Thanks for the post! My boyfriend is Chilean and we will be visiting Dallas in about two weeks. I’d love to take him somewhere with Chilean food (we’re from Michigan and there is nowhere around here with food that is remotely close to Chilean cuisine).
