Michael Kobelt (Rawlings @ The Ballpark in Arlington and Charlie Palmer @ The Joule) and Timm Zbylut (former GM at Lee Harvey’s) have teamed up to open the Stone Elephant across from Jakes at Skillman and Abrams. Right now they are serving a limited bar and grill menu and will be expanding the list to include home-style features and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. They have big screen TVs, a stage for bands, karaoke, pool tables and video games. Details to follow.
Can’t wait. Meanwhile the other former Lee Harvey’s GM, Phillip Jester has bought the recently closed Oak Cliff dive bar ‘Tradewinds’ on west side of Davis just south of Hampton. Also Karaoke Sat. nights, and despite no-smoking inside any Dallas bar, enough tar on those swagged fish net ceiling decors to re-roof a condo. Both of these people are good men and run great places. Good luck guys!
PS: When Timm was asking some of us for names of his proposed bar, one patron of LH’s, who is a Dallas policeman….Adam…suggested The Frugal Leach. Now how could anyone pass on that name?
Went there for lunch today to watch the Texas game and we were one of two tables. The girl behind the bar told us to sit anywhere but if she got busy she’d have to stay behind the bar and we would have to come to her to order. That didn’t happen. Hubby’s burger was a frozen patty with no taste and my chicken strips were also frozen. Not a good impression and will not be back. They need all the luck they can get.
Thank you for bringing that to our attention. We have a few kinks to work out before our GRAND OPENING on November 6th. I assure you that our meat is fresh and not frozen. We have only been open a week and are still working on the menu. I hope that you give us another try and let us know when you’re here and we’ll take special care of you. We welcome any criticism or suggestions you may have to ensure your next visit to Stone Elephant is a pleasant one!
I live right up the street and ride my bike there. Only bar in the area thats walking distance from my apartment. I went there for an afternoon drink. I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by there daytime bartender. Seemed like she ran the place because she was all over the place. Well I had a fried pickle that was ok and the chef was sitting at the bar watchin me eat it the entire time. When asked how it was I told him it was great but it really sucked.
Good jukebox selection though. Lots of hard rock. Good Luck with your place.
Some friends and I went in Monday for happy hour. Great atmosphere, We got chips & queso, and it was great. Good service too! My band, the Thin White Dukes are looking forward to playing the grand opening on November 6th. Good luck Timm!
Thanks Timm for replying. I think I will wait a while and hope the kinks will be taken care of….I know of an excellent consultant that has been in the restaurant business for almost 30 years. Maybe he could be of help.
I just started working for the fine folks at the Stone Elephant and everything I have sampled from the menu has been yummy. Not to mention..the Staff here is Old School. Really cool..but, don’t trust my opinion..come see for yourselves.
I tok my wife to this place this past weekend. The music was way to loud for a place of this size. The food was the worst I have ever tasted in my life. The Hamburgers tasted as if they were frozen for a long time. Staff was very messy and very unproffessional. Waitress was texting while serving my food. This place will not last long. DO not reccommend
My wife and I went here to give it a try
(we usually eat at jakes) I must say even
if they were giving the burgers away for free
I still would not go back, staff was preocupied with everything but taking care of the customers, and the music was so loud you could not hear the person accross the table ! If you want a great burger and friendly staff go accross the street to jakes. Im sure this place will not be around long if they don’t change things quickly.
We DO NOT reccommend
