Fried Pies Report: The Original Fried Pie Place In Richardson

Fried Pies
Fried Pies

I was cruising down Campbell this morning and spied The Original Fried Pie Place sitting in a dungy strip mall in Richardson. Inside business is no nonsense: cash only and fried pies. They make ten sweet fruit and cream pies, five sugar-free, and nine savory breakfast, lunch, and dinner pies. I bought peach, cherry, and chocolate.

Cherry.
Cherry.
If you love fried pies, you will like these. I found them to be very heavy on gooey filling and light on fruit, and the fruit used was canned or frozen, certainly not fresh. The chocolate was basically fried pudding. Most of the people in the office liked them— all of the pies were gone 20 minutes after I set them out. Hey, it was noon and I had a box of free food.

Peachy.
Peachy.
I’ll be by there again in a couple of weeks and will try the Polish sausage, potato, and cheese. The original shop is in Oklahoma City. The Richardson store opened about 9 months ago.

  1. I LOVE fried pies. I’ve MISSED fried pies. I NEED fried pies. Even those that are not like someone’s grandma made. They are at least real fried pies. I swore no one made these any more except me (the fresh cranberry-mandarin orange miniatures with fresh drzzled butter-powered sugar glaze. Eat your heart out. Literally.

    I’m there.

  2. Seriously those look so good! I a going to Cobb Switch tonight to try theirs!!

  3. I’m embarrased to admit this. I live in the same neighborhood as this place and thought it had closed. Thanks for the tip Nancy.

  4. Heading up to Kansas City in a few weeks, and may just try the pies at the Fried Pie Shoppe in Davis, Okla., on the way.

    I hear they’re incredible.

  5. The FRIED PIE Shoppe in Davis, OK at Exit 51 on I-35 has become my favorite pit stop when I’m traveling to/from Kansas. Just be sure to be there by 7 PM or you’ll miss out on all those delicious fried pies! Apricot is my favorite, but I haven’t sampled all the flavors yet. They are cheaper by the dozen, but since I always share with family/friends, they don’t last very long! I ate the last one this morning and I’m starting to have withdrawal symptoms. I found this link when I googled the name to find their other locations. Denison is the closest to me. Sounds like a nice Saturday drive!
