Burning Question: Who Has the Best Hangover Food?

5107_1162090060409_1472567709_30397572_5889097_nHow sad. I’m already planning my Sunday morning. But I have a party to attend Saturday night where the vodka will flow freely and the host is known for toxic Jell-O shots. I know. Classy. Anyway, I’m always looking for a great brunch/lunch spot for tasty food to soak up all the residual alcohol. I know greasy burgers are the common cure. (Howdy, Angry Dog!) But I’m looking for something a little different yet still effective. One of my new faves is the Hangover Helper at Kozy (pictured left): a mountain of scrambled eggs, ground buffalo, mushrooms, salsa, gauc, and spinach. That and a strong cup of coffee does the trick. So, SideDishers, what gets you through the morning after?

French scrambled eggs at La Duni.

Brunch at Blue Goose, doesn’t matter how hungover you look, get a mimosa some migas and couch.

  • JB

Anything on the menu at Barbec’s.

  • Margaret

Chips and Salsa for sure. Another beer.

My latest fav is the “Toad in a Hole” at State and Allen Lounge!! Delish and does the job!!

Causal..I need to just go pick it up and come lay back on the couch place?? Texadelphia….

  • Leanne

    Ozona – bloody mary bar

  • S

another mambo taxi and Stefano’s plate at Manny’s….two chicken enchilada’s with sunset sauce with two over easy eggs on top with a cup of bean soup :-)

  • Willis

Blue Mesa, all you can drink mimosas and yummy brunch buffet

  • Wes Mantooth

Call me WT, but a Wendy’s double with cheese and everything on it usually does me right by the time I’m able to think about ingesting anything on the day after.

  • Perry

Los Lupes Menudo, chips and salsa and Corona w/ lime.

  • whoknew

    Many Options:

Migas at Flying Fish (my new favorite migas!)
Twisted Root Cheeseburger with jalapenos and a root beer
Bean Soup and Fajitas at Casa Navarro
Chilequlies at Cafe Brazil with extra sauza

  • Robin

Umm…be serious. All you really want is taquito from Whataburger because otherwise you have to shower. If we’re showering, take me Boudreax’s for big bowl of jambalaya and a bloody mary.

  • KellyK

@ Wes I can beat your WT and call myself PWT because I always get the Whataburger chicken strips extra gravy with a side of hashbrowns and a large diet coke. But that was at 3 in the morning.

But Coquitas (sp?) was the BEST handover food!

  • Melissa

    Quarter Pounder, Fries, Diet Coke

  • pinktoes

Meridian Room is what I usually crave….jalepeno soup…. Mmm.

  • Todd Johnson

@KellyK: Cuquitas gets a heck yeah! Love the liver and onions. (I know, I know — not traditional hangover food. But still greasy goodness.)

@whoknew: Flying Fish has migas? Really? Do you get hushpuppies with that?

  • Nigel Tufnel

Waffle House for scattered, smothered, and covered hashbrowns.

  • whoknew

Flying Fish started having a full breakfast menu when metro diner closed… I think they offer it 7 days a week. To all migas lovers- theirs are the real deal!

  • whoknew

Is there another Cuquitas that is still open? The Henderson location was one of our favs until it closed.

CAfe Brazil is ALWAYS a safe bet – I LOVE the chorizo crepes for a hangover cure. And the Migas at Norma’s are belt-bucklin as well. Blue Mesa brunch is always good, and I just found a new place, Maximo, that has a buffet that will settle the shakes real quick!

  • vivakatina

The John Wayne at Gold Rush Cafe.

  • luniz

    maybe garden cafe.

  • CoB

    Cuquitas:
    8076 Spring Valley, at Coit
13260 Josey Lane, at Valley View – Farmers Branch

  • Scagnetti

When I was in college I used to get wicked hammered. My nickname was Puke. I would chug a fifth of So Co, sneak into a frat party, polish off a few people’s empties, some brewskies, some Jell-O shots, do some body shots off myself… Pass out, wake up the next morning, boot, rally, more So Co, head to class.

  • BradT

My “go to” hangover cure is the Piccadillo Cubano at La Cubanita

  • DB

Any of the mexican breakfast plates, Migas especially, at Alamo City Grille, with the $6 bottomless mimosas of course!

  • Tartare

La Calle Dolce Get the Ceviche and the Coctel 7 Mares and the grande margarita on the rocks The Stuffed oysters will also do the trick

  • Twinwillow

Thankfully, I never have a “morning after”. I outgrew that immature practice a long time ago.
Hope you all have a designated driver. I’m tired of seeing you morons kill innocent people with your cars.
Remember, you reap what you sow.

  • Amy B

Best hangover spots: Dim Sum at Kirin court, Fatty Burger & ICed Tea at JG’s or Mexican Food at Mia’s.

  • S

aaawww Twin, enjoy your soggy cheerios!

  • foodczar

I second Perry on the menudo at Los Lupes!

  • Tartare

Hey Twink Why are you reading about hangover cures if you don’t get them, kind of like Mother Teresa reading Hustler.
    Then there is this……..
I feel sorry for people who don’t drink. When they wake up in the morning, that’s as good as they’re going to feel all day.

FRANK SINATRA, quoted in The Hangover Survival Guide

Still think a cold Sprite, saltine sleeve and lying on the walk-in floor is the greatest cure

  • Glenn Campbell

    Pho bang.

  • snootyfoodie

7-11 has the best. King size Reeses peanut butter cup, grab bag of flaming hot cheetos. Big Gulp Dr Pepper.

  • D

Cibus at Northpark. Bottomless mimosas and great breakfast. La Duni is right across from it as well if you want another option.

  • borntorhone

I cannpt believe nobody has mentioned the KILLER ultimate grilled cheese sandwich at Lucky’s. Although almost their entire menu qualifies as hangover cure food!
My second choice would be Gloria’s shrimp cocktail.

  • Don

@ Twinwillow – Don’t think anyone on here is advocating drinking and driving. Only drinking and eating. Simmer down. Take a nap.

  • DallasGirl

Twinwillow- why exactly are you even reading this article? Thanks for making me laugh. But down to business, if you all haven’t tried the Breakfast Burger at TABC in Uptown, do yourself a big huge favor. Amazing!!!!
