A little songbird just landed on my computer screen and sang this tune:
eatZi’s Market & Bakery just received 150 cases of Fourplay Rosso No1. The red wine blend from Sicily is going on sale today for $3.99 a bottle (max of 1 case per customer). The bottle normally retails for $16.99 each.
On your mark…
Does anyone know if they still have some? I was going to stop by after work…
Sorry, just got back to a computer. As of 5:03 they had wine. But the spokesperson told me the phones have been ringing off the hook. Do phones have hooks any more?
It just illustrates how powerful SideDish’s blogs are.
A small announcement by Nancy and half the town is,
“in motion”.
Don’t you think there is a reason they would part for the wine at 1/6th retail?
I’m sure its an older vintage but is still drinking well, Eatzi’s said they would take every bottle they could, sell it for $.50 over cost, make a quick $1300 profit, and make people excited about getting such a great deal.
Great business.
I buy the wine for eatZi’s, and taste each wine before I buy them. The wines are from vintages 2006, 2007, and are outstanding table wines. Yes, you’ve nailed it-we just want our guests to be excited about getting a great deal.
@ Gern-
Interesting math. Perhaps a refresher is in order.
The real question is why is distributor selling it off at a reduced price if it so “outstanding”?
Gern:
Lots of examples of this right now. It is because of a massive inventory overhang. None of the grapes in these wines was originally planted in the belief the final product would sell for this low a price. They could have done better in Zimbabwean Treasuries. The recession has absolutely stopped wine buying — like nothing most people in the business have ever seen before. Think a Miami condo. (but more liquid).
Good conversation here. Worzel is right on–I am hearing this daily (hourly). Expect to see more of these sales as world wineries are desperate to clear space. Love the condo analogy.
the winery changed importers and hence a change of local distributor. The old distrib is clearing the wine out. Period.
Wine and other perfectly good products are sold at or near a loss for a variety of business reasons. My only question is will they still have a bottle or two when I swing by at 5:00pm today.
