Last night’s SideDish Supper Club event at Kenichi restaurant was a huge success. We ate nine courses, drank a lot of sake, watched some Memoirs of a Geisha, and generally had a fantastic time. Major kudos to Chef Hung and his Kenichi crew. Even with so many courses, the meal moved quickly and servers and chefs were extremely friendly. InsideCorner’s Evan Grant took photos of each gorgeous dish, and I’ll post them as soon as I get them (yes Evan, this is a hint). My favorite course? The simple “green vegetable soup” with fiddlehead ferns.
It was brilliant! Dallas is so fortunate to have a Kenichi here. The menu and the extensive sake list are impressive. I hope Dallas ad regional diners will support it. The staff on all fronts was perfect. I do have one quibble though, the Sake Master said that you don’t get hangovers after drinking sake.
I beg to differ. Moving a little slow today.
Also one of the best meals of my life, certainly the best I’ve had in Dallas. The chefs far exceeded my expectations, which I had slightly lowered due to the difficulty of preparing a nine course menu at that level of detail for about 50 people. It’s hard to pick a favorite course, everything was executed perfectly and the whole was greater than the sum of it’s parts. Although that second sake (I forget the name) was amazing, definitely in my top 3.
DGirl–it must’ve been the dessert that gave you hangover.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone for coming to the fête! I’m proud of our staff’s performance last night, and we were very glad to have the support at the dinner of the SideDish community. We’re grateful to have the chance to show our stuff, and I hope everyone had a lot of fun!
luniz–that saké was Kamotsuru Sokaku, from a brewery, established in 1604 near Hiroshima, which began exports to the US in 1896. This world-class saké is now available on our list.
