I spent a rare evening at home last night. Just me, my dogs, some take-out Chinese, and a little Bonny Doon Riesling. (And Law & Order SVU on TiVio.) Instead of watching the L&O, I surfed some other food blogs and found two gems I would like to share with you.
First off, Ms. Teresa Gubbins over at PegNews writes about Ava, “an important foodie-style restaurant” that opened Tuesday in Rockwall Town Square. Read all about it and then congratulate TG for using the term Rockwallian with charm and grace.
Secondly, I turn to Scott, the Cher of discriminating Dallas diners. Scott runs Dallasfood.org, where a tough group of hard-to-please palates lurks behind scary avatars. Scott has a review of Lito’s, a small Mexican spot on Jefferson. If the words don’t make you hungry, the pictures will.
The GREATNESS of Scott at DallasFood.org…
I had the pleasure of dinign at Lito’s earlier this week based on Scott’s review. The plates are $6.25 and they have about 6-8 of them range from mole verde to chicarron prensado to caldo de res. I believe they have tacos of about 4 to 5 meats. All are made in house from scratch and it shows. The corn tortillas and tortillas chips freshly hand made to order. The weekend opens up more possibilities with I believe 4 or 5 tamale varieties, Menudo, and Posole. The restaurant is not hard to find just look for the tallest building on Jefferson and it is directly across the street also across from Gonzalez. The service was generous and the decor was nice but the place was spotless clean. I would say one of the cleanest places in the city.
Greatest food blog is the Internet Food Association, though it has no local ties.
