Okay Dishers, here is your assignment today. Check out Full Custom Gospel BBQ and let me know what you think. The producer of this site writes:
I’ve eaten at every bbq joint in Dallas, and I’m looking to conquer the rest of the metroplex. 76 down…a couple dozen to go.
He wants to be added to our blogroll on the right. You ‘cue cats decide.
UPDATE: Comments link fixed.
I liked it. I think the name of the site is paying homage to an awesome Reverend Horton Heat album, so that’s a good start. And he didn’t review the McRib or anything, so he seems official enough…
This should definitely make the blogroll!
This guy has seemingly taken a very methodical approach to eating some serious ‘cue. The postings seem frequent and he doesn’t look to hold back the criticism. There are even a couple of non-review postings about bbq, meat, etc. . .funny stuff. I say give the blog a chance.
I’m Catholic.
And I don’t eat that much beef.
But after reading their reviews of where I can find deep red smoke lines, perfectly formed black crusts and the nicely seasoned snap of an in-house jalapeno sausage — I’m ready to eat meat on Fridays!
This blog is packed with protein! I love the anecdotes and bbq 801 entries sprinkled in among the careful reviews of an amazing number of texas barbecue joints.
Holy Smokes…(pun intended)this guy is dedicated. I like meat &all, but could i REALLY eat at 76+ places? Well thankfully i don’t have to. He did–so i just use his critiques! Have tried several of his hole-in-the-wall recommendations, and it was great advice.
I have used this blog as a reference and for recommendations to have the best BBQ. It is evident the reviewer has eaten at each place and has the knowledge of ‘good food.’
Definitely add it…great reading and he knows what he’s talking about! And somebody suggest a barbecue spot near Austin/Bastrop that is not the Salt Lick…
I think this is a great addition…very helpful advice that comes in handy!
For good eating in Austin/Bastrop area I would suggest Donn’s in East Austin on FM 969 (Not Donn’s Texas BBQ in West Austin). 30 minutes north of Bastrop is Elgin where you can find Southside Market, Meyer’s (great garlic sausage) and Steve Cartwright’s (in the former location of Crosstown BBQ, and not as good). I have not been to Cartwright’s in Bastrop, but I’m guessing it’s similar to the Elgin location. The best in the area might be Zimmerhanzel’s in Smithville, just 20 minutes from Bastrop. I haven’t been, but it has an excellent reputation. It just reopened last month after a brief closure.
Talk about dedication! I’d definitely add it.
Someone turned me onto this site a couple of months ago. Reviews seem spot on and I have enjoyed reading all the postings. He takes an Alton Brown ‘esque approach to bbq, and I can appreciate that angle. Good stuff!
While The Dude, aka Jeff Bridges, was a connoisseur of weed, bowling, and area rugs; this dude is a meat maven. He has some well written and concise prose that clearly reveals his love and respect for ‘da ‘cue. Let’s see how much he can eat and live to tell us about it.
I say add it. This guy has definitely done the leg-work and should get the props for it.
I love the website, I think his reviews are well rounded and to the point. I’ve been to a few of the places and I think he’s right on it. He’s a bbq connoisseur.
This is an easy choice. ADD IT. He knows what he is talking about. He has clearly done his research aka eaten at almost every freakin place imaginable in the area. Im sure more great reviews will come from him.
If Catholics don’t eat much beef then this dud must be a full prayed-up Baptist.
Add his blog while he’s here, as much as he’s eatin’ he won’t be with us long.
interesting timing to see this site listed right before i take a day trip on saturday down to lockhart for some bbq at kreuz market. although he doesn’t like kreuz as much as i do, the blog is a great source of info for bbq lovers. ADD IT!
Finally, someone speaks out on the travesty that is ****ey’s Barbeque! The man speaks the truth, add him.
Good comments and educational for this wannabe foodie. Didn’t know what rendered was until I read this….mmmmmmmmmmmm….fat!of course it should be added~
An unparalleled resource and certainly worthy of a spot on the blogroll. Perhaps one of the tastiest blogs to have been blogged in a blong time. Delicious.
There are very few people who have taught me something about BBQ. This site has. I’d let him on the list.
Definite “add.”
I agree. mmmmmmmmmmmmm……educational and delicious. This is obvioulsy a labor of love.
do it. obviously this guy has done the research. add away!
As someone who now only visits the great state of Texas, his bbq rating system will be critical in planning my next trip. Please add!
Make this really fun by asking us to vote on which link on the current list we want to remove to make room for this one!
This site has been my go to guide for many a road trip or detour to the best ‘cue spots in Texas. The reviews have been spot on in my experience.
Please add this site!
This guy is quite the conisouir. The dedication it must take to eat BBQ for breakfast. A must add for sure.
His fanatical approach to the art of BBQ is unparalleled. His unbiased reviews of Texas ‘cue leave the reader’s mouth watering. His hard work and dedication at the very least warrant an addition to this blog.
A great website and resource for BBQ. How has he had time to visit all these places. Pretty awesome! Keep up the good work.
