Teresa Says N9NE Steakhouse is Closed

Wade, where are you? Is it true? Former employees have claimed they were laid off last night. Read what Pegasus sez.

For the record, I do not report this with glee dripping from my fingertips. If the story is true, then we must grieve—a good number of local people are now unemployed. And, if this story is true, the west side of Victory Plaza is now cavernous and dark.

Waiting for Wade.

UPDATE: A flat tire delayed my chat with Wade. Just off the phone with him. The Casino party has moved to Ghostbar. “We [N9NE] stuck it out for a long time to keep people employed,” said Wade. “I’ll have a lot of things to say next week about our nightclub.”

  2. So no CASINO PARTY this weekend. Are they going to blame the Lottery Commission for their demise?

  3. So it wasn’t the bad blogging that “done them in?”

  5. I’m so sorry learning of these ongoing closings whether it’s a neighborhood diner or a big buck establishment. My condolences.

  6. So you really can’t open an expensive restaurant in a broke-ass town? Maybe Reunion Tower will fall next.

  7. You had better hope this post is true. Otherwise Wade is really going to lose his sh#t.

  10. 009 Monte Carlo Nights (the casino party JHS mentions) is still ON. Saturday night, 10PM at Ghostbar. The RSVP list exceeded N9NE’s firecode so the location was moved to accomodate the guests. There will be a special 009 event check-in line for guests who RSVPd. (Look for special signage).

  11. Hmmm… You think ghostbar is adiosing too? Or maybe expanding to include food?

  13. I agree with” I miss the greenroom”, I cannot comprehend why Dallas supports mediocre restaurants over quality places. I mean how many places in Dallas have a gussied up version of Mac N Cheese. Dallas chefs let’s be a little more creative. More restaurants per capita than any other city but fewer quality restaurants than most cities. Victory park will now be filled with horrible restaurants like Mi Cocina or a Lombardi concept.

  14. To the employees of N9NE I extend my condolences. Since the Green Room is no longer hiring I suggest those of you who wish to stay employeed in the restaurant business contact the horrible Mi Cocina or Alberto Lombardi – both of which/whom have created hundreds of long lived jobs in this city. Alex – What have you ever done aside from perfecting the snide remark?

  15. Alex wasn’t criticizing Mi Cocina and Lombardi for their track record of creating jobs, Gastrognome. He was criticizing Dallas for the poor taste that makes those restaurants so successful here.

  16. It’s not always about the food, alex. In fact, in this town, it’s rarely about the food. Lots of Dallas diners love complex cuisine but don’t support those outlets with enough frequency to make them cash cows. Dallas chefs can be creative all they want to, but people don’t always want to eat that way so it doesn’t put butts in the seats. Restaurants like MiCo’s any any of Alberto’s places put out good, relatively affordable food but more importantly, they are “scenes.” They are loud, energetic, well decorated for the most part and offer great people watching. That’s what the Dallas dining scene thrives on.

  17. If these guys would have done enough research they would have never opended here, when they first opened Ghostbar they basically went to clubs in downtown and uptown and took that as what the Dallas nightlife was about. Not visiting any other places like Addison, Lower Greenville, Frisco, Plano etc etc. I know this becuase I was going to be a DJ there. I was in many discussions over the phone with the Vegas counterparts until I was told the music they wanted played which I knew would not work so I declined the job offer. When your told what to play your no longer a DJ just a glorified button pusher. And sure enough they changed the music format quickly upon opening. I doubt if the “megaclub” they were planning on will ever see the light of day in Dallas.

  18. Looks like the “tens of millions in sales” that Wade said he generated in a previous blog comment wasn’t enough…

  19. We need to stop beating a dead horse. We will never know the real reason they closed and I doubt they would ever disclose, nor should they. It’s a business, it’s their business and maybe they were still making money but just not enough to maintain their budget. I don’t doubt Mr. Hampton saying they had “high expectations”…they should have! Dallas is awesome. I think they were just as disappointed in the people here as we were in them. N9NE grew on me, not necessarily my favorite spot, but I gave it a chance (or two) just like I have had to at some of the aforementioned spots above as well. (Some of my favorite spots are hated on this blog weekly so I will keep those to myself.) Yes, N9NE is full of some interesting personalities–both employed there and their patrons. But hey, that’s what makes it unique and this city unique. Do what I do, laugh at them and move on worry about yourself. Fact of the matter is Dallas took a hit whether you liked the restaurant or not, and we are blogging about people losing jobs. When is that ever cool? Just because we don’t root for the team doesn’t mean we have to root against them. Just don’t watch the game. Got to admit I am going to miss the gnocchi…

  20. Wine Dog=refreshing voice.

  21. Such a shame. I know some of the people who lost their jobs. Funny how people can talk so harshly about others and call THEM superficial when what we’re really talking about is a lot of people hurt by a sunken economy. I’m glad people like Wine Dog exist. It makes me realize that Dallas–Like N-O, has soul.
