Tuesday Morning De-Icing Report: Where’s da Chili At?

Just got an email from a super-cute Disher looking for something to warm her up a bit (no, not like that).

Her request: chili.

I’m so cold. Really craving a big bowl of chili. Meat, beans, no beans, whatever. Where can I get a good chili lunch?

I told her I’d post it for the SideDish nation. My first thought is Whole Foods, because it’s right down the street from me and their chili is very hearty (and you could get one of those mini ciabatta rolls to go with it, yum). Now I want some too, but some of my mom’s, made with kidney beans and topped with crushed saltines.

I had the best bowl in a long time at Perry’s a couple of week’s ago.

    I second Perry’s – I crave the chili there.

ya know…i’m not one for fast food usually…but..Wendy’s…serves up a decent chili, and it’s not expensive. :)

I LOVE the turkey chili from Greenz! So warm and hearty. I think I’m going to get it and a Warm Pear salad delivered today– too cold to get out of the office.

I love bean soup as much as anyone, but it is not chili. Turkey soup is lovely stuff, but it is not chili. If there is anything green in it, it is not chili. Wendy’s chili looks like dog poop, and tastes worse.

Through the holidays, you can get some AmaZinG brisket chili at State & Allen in Uptown. To keep you warmed up, try their pork ribs, also — half or full rack. They do sell out so call ahead — 214/239-1990.

If you work downtown walk over to Neiman’s. Their turkey chili topped with cheese, sour cream, salsa and yummy nacho chips is so delicious and also low fat (without all the fixins). Also Greenz is good and delivers.

Although they are not open for lunch, the chili at Canary Cafe in Addison was awesome. With just a little spiciness, it was unlike anything I’ve ever had before. Check it out.

Me, too, for Canary Cafe. An exciting chili experience.

I had the same idea. I walked to Chili’s on Knox. It was great and hit the spot!

Gotta try Perry’s! They put prime beef in there. Yes, real prime beef! It also goes great on top of a burger IMO.

I’m a big fan of the chili at Ozona’s.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Tolberts Bowl of Red now stocked at Whole Foods. Still my favorite; too bad they don’t have the 5 alarm available frozen.

I’m so bummed about Strong’s. That was my favorite chili in town. A non-traditional (but still no beans – blech!) version that I particularly like is from Baker Bros. The owner once told me he likes to mix it with the Beer Cheese Soup. You could also mix it with their Black Bean Soup if you’re into the beans thing (and that one is a bit spicier so you don’t have to add as much Tabasco).

It’s a bummer there isn’t a good chili parlor anywhere in Dallas (I totally don’t dig the Tolbert’s in Grapevine, maybe I’m a Wick Fowler fan).

My kitchen. Last year’s venison needed to be cooked. It does have green things in it though…fresh chili peppers.
