Tio’s Tortas, R.I.P.

I loved Tio’s on Lemmon Avenue. However, I just learned they are closed. Now where do we go for roasted pork tortas?

  5. My partner, who is from Mexico City and I tried the food at Tios. They had said the Tortas were authentic, like they serve in Mexico. New Mexico maybe, but NOT from Mexico. R.I.P.

  6. Damn. Should I be glad that I never got to try the place, so I won’t really miss it? Or should I just be pissed that another place is gone that I never even got to try? I think I’ll just be pissed.

  9. I have never been, just another reason not to wait to try places…

On another note, some friends and I wanted to try out a new Chef driven local place for book club. Maybe 8-12 of us for dinner and drinks.

This place does not take reservations, but put you on list…

When I called back to tell them our party of 8 will probably be 10-12, they said, “We do not take any table/party larger than 8.” I said, “Could we do two tables of 6?”

The guy who answered the phone said, “You could, but there is no guarantee you guys would sit close to each other, or even be served at close to the same time. And our Chef does not like to deal with large tables.”

We are wanting to go on a MONDAY night, not a weekend night. We are drinkers and eaters!

Should we be agitated in the day and age that they are not even willing to help us out? Or should we just call it a day and go to another local place, just down the street, where they have recently remodeled and say they have room for large parties??

Humm. Will get off my soapbox now.

  12. When Tio’s first opened we went and really enjoyed our food. The two times other times I stopped in for a quick takeout the food was on a slippery slide downhill to nowhere (i asked for no guac as I don’t like the stuff, only to find out it was still slathered all over it). Shame; neat concept and initially a great torta (for me anyway! i.e. had black beans on it).
On a side bar, County Line BBQ has closed in the Bass Pro shopping behemoth in Garland (almost in Rockwall). It only lasted about a year and had some pretty good ribs and cold beer to enjoy from the lakeside patio. RIP…

  14. They were supposed to open a Tio’s Tortas in the Arlington Highlands over a year ago, but they pulled out quicker than a married man having an affair with a 17 year old.
