Who loves queso? We do! However, a restauratuer who wants to make some just phoned me and asked me “who” I liked? I said “George Clooney, Chuy’s, and MiCocina sunset sauce.”

Blue Goose on Lower Greenville. I’ve tried to find others I liked more, but always come back to that.

Bob Armstrong at Matt’s!

Great queso at Cafe R&D — though it’s not what you think. It’s chilled and more like pimento cheese spread but still very good. Comes with guacamole and chips. Just something different from the norm.

Try Kelly’s Queso at Anamia’s: queso covering a mound of seasoned ground beef and guacamole. Mmmm!

2nd the Bob Armstrong at Matt’s.

Mix some pureed roasted hot Hatch green chiles with melted velveeta and a dash of cumin. ‘Nuff said.

Monica’s White Queso and Ozona- YUM!
@ 3:39 pm on September 23, 2008
I’m down for Monica’s & Blue Goose in Dallas, but my faves are Kirby Queso and Maudie’s queso in Austin.

Sala, formerly Amuse, makes some outstanding queso.

I love the Bob Armstrong! It’s my comfort queso.

Kirby Queso is a great name. BOB ARMSTONG DOES NOT COUNT.

Matito’s
And you know who actually has good queso? Chili’s. I will sometimes go there when I go out of town. Bueno.
@ 4:34 pm on September 23, 2008
Matt’s/Mattito’s natch, but I definitely second Sala with the excellent “Holy Trinity” dish…pico, guac, and queso…all fresh, all delish…and served with the ever so elusive warm, crisp, WHOLE (not broken), and fresh from the fryer torilla chips.

Mico’s sunset sauce was created by God on the 8th day.

Kirby should be Kerbey above. It’s been a while….
I am going to second Chili’s as an out of town favorite. If you were to be relocated to Maine for a job, isn’t it nice to know that you could get decent chips/salsa/queso outside of Texas? My sister ate at a Chili’s in Egypt and said it was nearly identical. She tried all the local food too, but after 2 weeks, sometimes you want chips and salsa in a foreign land…
@ 4:46 pm on September 23, 2008
I am changing my name to Kerbey Queso.

Shockingly, Texadelphia does a great job with their queso. Clean & pure with no added ingredients..just jalepenos on the side if you like.

Well, hello, everybody, it’s me Kirby Queso. And I’m so happy you voted for me, but I used to play center field for the Minneosta Twins and am defnitely not some kind of cheese dip. But I can tell you that when me and the lovely Mrs. Queso go out, we try the Compuesto at Chuy’s. Just like the Bob Armstrong dip, but queso-ier. But Miss Nancy says Bob Armstong doesn’t count. Queso sara sara.’K so, anybody got anything else?

..The queso at Amigos in Richardson is TOTALLY the best. Thick, bit not too thick…perfectly spiced..and served with just out of the fryer chips. YUM. (On Beltline near Glenville Ave.)
@ 8:18 am on September 24, 2008
I vote for Monica’s white queso, too.
@ 10:38 am on September 24, 2008
If Bob’s is off the list then I vote for Desperado’s queso. Yum! Chuy’s is pretty good too.

@DJ: I tried the queso at Cafe R&D after reading your post. Looooooved it. Yes, similar to pimento but with less tang IMO. Smoother texture too.
