You all know chef Chris Ward–in 2007, he won D Magazine’s Stainless Steel Chef Award. Today comes word from the foodie gods:
The Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter of The American Institute of Wine & Food is pleased to announce the 2008 winners for the best wine and food pairing menu for KRLD’ s Restaurant Week presented by Central Market. This year’s winners are Executive Chef Chris Ward and Wine Professional Robert Cooper of The Mercury.
The prize for both the winning chef and the wine professional is a continuing education class at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in the Napa Valley. Accommodations for five nights at a Napa Valley Winery and air fare are included. A traveling trophy will also be given to the restaurant. The winning chef will be interviewed on KRLD.
A panel of professional judges picked the winner based on how effectively the menu described the dishes, and how well the wines were matched to the foods. Restaurant names were removed from the menus for judging.
Past winners:
2000 Samir Dhurandhar Nick and Sam’s
2001 Joanne Bondy Ciudad
2002 Brian Luscher The Grape
2003 Tre Wilcox Abacus
2004 Chad Boyle Steele

2006 Sharon Hage York Street
2007 Lan Nickens Chamberlain’s Chop House
Very well deserved. The Mercury rocks. Send us a postcard from Napa.
Wow! I ate at Mercury last week and it was crazy good. Now I know why. How long has he been cooking there?
I dined at six spots for Restaurant Week. The Mercury was far and away the best. I would have paid full price for all of it. The worst? Believe it or not, Abacus. (The food was unimaginative as were the wine pairings though the homemade Kit Kat for dessert was amazing.)
Congratulations Chris, we love what you do!
Way to go Chris! Kathie, he started the restaurant several years ago and has been its only chef from day one. A chef’s chef – on any given night if you look around the room you’re likely to see some of the biggest names in the local restaurant world who have chosen to dine at the table of a master. This was a well deserved honor.
Congrats to Chris – his food is amazing.
The Mercury is Wonderful!!! Chris’s food is heavenly, his classes are worth fighting for and above all he is just a very fine person. Worthy of the honor and more!
