Someone on this blog once asked if I had a job. And I do. I have two jobs. Which is why I don’t blog very often and when I do it’s often days after the fact. But, you know what they say, better late than never. So without further ado: Saturday tea at Screen Door. In a word, delightful. Continue reading "Tea Party"
I dedicate this post to my favorite foodie nerd in Dallas, Miss Teresa Gubbins. She loves funky, offbeat, chewy, and chocolaty obscure little foods. I like that about her. Anywhoo, instead of forwarding the new-product press release I just got from Little Debbie to TG like I usually do, I decided to post it myself. I mean we do have a bit of a football vibe going on here today, right. And who doesn’t love football-shaped brownies? You can catch them in all local supermarkets until the Super Bowl. What Little Debbie, no samples?
YIPPEE!!! Can you believe it’s already football season? Hell, I’m still waiting for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hmm. Must get out more. Anywhoo, if you love the Philadelphia Eagles or love to hate them, then you must make plans to attend the first Gridiron Chef Classic taking place on September 13 from 6:00-9:00pm at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Las Colinas. The event, two nights before the Cowboys/Eagles game, will feature chefs from Dallas battling their rivals in Philly. The $100 per ticket fundraiser benefits the James Beard Foundation to support local scholarships to future culinary stars. Details below. I am going to be in Southern California for a few days in September. I’ll be in Dana Point and Long Beach area for the most part, but I’m driving into LA to eat at my favorite old hangout, Madeo. If you have another other suggestions, send them. I haven’t been to LA since I moved back here in 1994. Don’t suppose too much has changed, eh? (George Clooney, I’m coming after you.)
Our fashion editor Stephanie Quadri attended the oh-so-private soft opening of Tristan Simon’s new spot, Victor Tango’s. Here is her report:
9 Comments »As Nancy mentioned, I did attend the pre-opening/Anne Stodghill’s (wife of lawyer, Steve Stodghill) birthday bash at Victor Tango’s on Saturday night and yes, I am still recovering. Here’s what I recall: The Rat Pack themed party drew in a huge (it was packed when we arrived at 9:30 and continued to be throughout the evening) crowd including actor Bailey Chase (from TNT’s Saving Grace), Mark Cuban, Todd Wagner, Tom Landry Jr., Capera Ryan, Jonas and Nicole Woods, JB Hayes, Rozalyn Columbo, Michael & Melina Cain and many more. Bartenders worked feverishly to fill drink requests while Managing Partner/Operator Greg Katz made sure things ran smoothly. (Jump for more!) Continue reading "Victor Tango’s: Insider-y Edition"
We haven’t heard from Gina Campisi lately, but last night I heard that she’d signed a chef. I found her PR person “having a slice” in New York but she took the time to verify that, yes, Gina has picked David Peck, a former executive sous chef from Nove to run the kitchen at Fedora Restaurant & Lounge at One Arts Plaza. After a little Internet search, I learned Peck did a short stint at Nana. However, one Disher claims “He’s young and he’s hot.” So, there you have all of the basics.
A very nice man, Carl Van Fleet, from the In-N-Out Burger corporate offices returned my call last night. Here is what he said:
“We have taken a look at the Dallas/Fort Worth market for future plans and that may have triggered speculation that In-N-Out was coming to Texas. However. for the next several years, we don’t plan to expand any further than California, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. We have taken a long-term look at Dallas for our future plans.”
And that’s the name of that tune.
