We saw the screener about 3 weeks ago. It’s lightweight, but enjoyable. Lots of stereotypes. Rickman is a hoot and over the top. So is Bo, the sun — hippy rage and angst that suddenly — I won’t be a spoiler. Dennis Farina has a bit part that he plays to the hilt.

It’s all about Chateau Montelena, and Stags Leap only gets a mention in the final credits. So Dali is making a HUGE stretch with their plug (except that it won the red, which does not get shown in the movie at all).

I think one of his best lines, in terms of delivery and expression, was: “These wines…they’re all very good!!”

Of course, the ever beautiful Eliza Dushku had a great response to him with: “What were you expecting? Thunderbird?”

I saw Bottle Shock and loved it. Yes, they did get some very important facts wrong. But as a former professional actor, let me tell you that Alan Rickman is one of the best in the business. I agree with Pete above; his reactions to wine are priceless. His portrayal is the ultimate caricature of The Wine Snob!!

Napa looks beautiful. (Of course) Bill Pullman overacts. Alan Rickman is great. (Once again, of course) Overall, an average movie. But it did make me thirsty.

I saw it and really liked it. It was a cute, feel-good movie. Some of the characters were silly but the scenery in the movie is beautiful. If this movie was a Chardonnay, I think would be Cambria’s “Katherine’s Vineyard.” It’s easy to drink, not complex at all, buttery and light. It’s not spectacular – like a Rombauer – but very enjoyable.

I saw it. It was awful. One of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time.

Basically, the script is a fictionalized version of the real events. So you get cliched, stock characters, manufactured drama, and ridiculous stereotypes. My wife and I spent a good portion of the movie rolling our eyes. I couldn’t wait for it to end.

Supposedly there is another movie coming out in the near future about the Judgement of Paris. Hopefully it will be better.

Great movie! All American wine lovers should go see it. Alan Rickman is a hoot as the snooty British owner of a wine shop in Paris. Watching his wrinkle-nosed reaction tooling around Napa in a beat up Gremlin rental car was worth the price of admission. Lots of good laughs along the way, and of course, the coup de grace at the end. Go see it. Now.

I caught it on Saturday night. While I’m not sure how much of the movie is true, the story about Chateau Montelena and Stags Leap winning in Paris (or at some countryside manor) seemed to be well-done. Overall, good movie, has some good laughs, teaches you a little about the wine making process, and makes you want to chant “USA, USA!” at the end. Well, maybe not the chanting.

Incidentally, if they were serving Stags Leap Cask 23 Cabernet, I would totally be there…plus I have my RW dinner at Abacus anyway.
