I ran into Wine’tastic sommelier D’Lynn Proctor today after he completed his grueling exam. He’s one of seven Dallas sommeliers competing for the title of Texas’ Best Sommelier. We’ll find out the winner at Monday night’s Grand Tasting. Proctor was also recently named Best New Sommelier in America 2008 by Wine and Spirits magazine. Congratulations, D’Lynn.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with D’Lynn Proctor on several occasions, at Wine’tastic and other. In addition to being ridiculously knowledgeable, he is very congenial and funny. This is something he has been working extremely hard toward and Dallas is well represented, and should be proud of him, because of it. If you’ve never had the chance to meet D’Lynn, please drop in to Wine’tastic at least once and do so.
What others should know is that D’Lynn had not spent his entire or the majority of his career in wine like Guy Stout, Drew Hendricks and others. He learned about wine on a very accelerated basis, and he caught up to the big whigs quickly. It is not a surprise that he has achieved this much so far. It, however, is a surprise that he didn’t get such accolades earlier in his wine career.
This is a guy who loves and knows his wine. He’s beat me on blind tastings every single time we ever sat for one.
