This one made me laugh out loud. Dishers rock.
We walked into this weirdly monochromatic cavern bookended by two disco pillars. The noise level was sorority-house-rush-week despite the restaurant being only 75% of capacity. We were seated by the sadly wasted real estate that was designed as a champagne and caviar bar—evidently, we Texans don’t cotton to fishberry jam because there wasn’t a sole sitting around the entire circular structure. (My S/O commented it was in the shape of a zero, appropriately.)
RW menu was front and center, with suggestions for pricey enhancements on either side. Nice selections for Restaurant Week—I had the Wedge with bacon and egg (sort of a breakfast salad) a Kobe Flat Iron Steak (waaaaaay too peppery) and a Black Forest Chocolate Cheesecake with Cherries (tasted a lot like fudge.) We had a side of Macaroni and Cheese that was tasty but not Hibiscus-swoony. All in all it was good, not great, and not sure I’d return since the room really gives me the chills. I think Tilda Swinson (ice queen from Narnia) decorated it.
Service was good if uninspired. Alex Cole, the manager, is a rock star and seemed to be everywhere at once, touching tables, running the door, keeping the potties tidy—you name it, he was doing it.
Was that a pun about sole at the caviar bar or did the disher mean soul???
Yes it was supposed to be a pun since I was talking about fishberry jam–admittedly weak and f l o u n d e r i n g.
I also had dinner at N9NE Steakhouse for restaurant week and let me tell you I loved it! I was greeted by 2 beautiful women at the host stand that took me to my table inside this amazing space that you won’t see anywhere else in Dallas. I can understand that people in this city have a hard time accepting something that doesn’t look like every other restaurant in this town. As I sat down at my table, I was greeted by a great server that really seemed happy to be there even though he was busy. I enjoyed the yummy watermelon salad that was very refreshing for this hot summer day. Then I also had the Kobe Flatiron. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. To the person who commented on N9Ne before me, “Steak Au Poive” means “Steak of Pepper”. You may want to brush up on your culinary terms before dining out. The managers at N9NE were fabulous. They really seem to understand and love the restaurant business. I also love the fact that at the end of the meal I received a $25 gift card to return with another night. What restaurants do that? All and all my experiene at N9NE, during restaurant week, was amazing! I mean how can you complain when you are having a meal in a unique space, being served wonderful food by beautiful people.
On Mother’s day Kenny’s WoodFire grill gave us $10.0 cards to use at another time. Not my first choice for restaurant week but we are going to try it. Ounce is tonight.
