Scott Jones’ new One Arts Plaza hot spot is getting mixed reviews. The food is spotty though I found lunch pretty darn tasty. Great meatloaf open face sandwich and the fried green tomatoes with mozzarella are swoon-worthy. One thing everyone agrees on: the interior design rocks. It’s all very sophisticated Southern and provides a great backdrop for the ladies who lunch. Another thing I loved? The sweet tea. It’s refreshing and just sugary enough without being cloyingly sweet. A perfect summer sipper. Best of all? They leave the jug on the table so you can help yourself. Nice touch.
I had a very salty chicken caesar salad there… asked if they had lemonade (nothing more Southern or “screen door” than a cold glass of lemonade) and was told that, yes! we do! Minute Maid!(Wince.) And to be even crankier, IMO the decor seems derivative and from too many sources: sorta organic, sorta nostalgic and sorta Tuesday Morning even though I understand that the venerable George Cameron Nash was involved. Different strokes I guess
Our party had a great time at Screen Door last Thursday night. The quail appetizer and lobster pot pie were outstanding. Fun crowd and decor – we liked it. Needless to say, we had adult beverages rather than sweet tea and lemonade – yecchh.
I think that the desserts at Screen Door are very stand-out compared to other new openings in the area. Been there two times and no miscues.
Ouch, Minute Maid lemonade? You should ask “Lucky” to make a fresh one at the bar. When I had requests for lemonade at my bar, I used only fresh lemons (pulverized and muddled), cane sugar and Dallas’ finest filtered water…or sometimes sparkling water like Perrier or Pelligrino…whatever was in the bar. Minute Maid just doesn’t cut it. I’ll even take Simply Lemonade over Minute Maid.
The Screen Door has fresh lemonade hand made daily by Cat
Thanks !! very helpful post!
