“I Thought You Only Got Salmonella From Animals”

That’s a quote from a Disher who read the post below about Central Market’s voluntary recall of fresh jalapenos. The fact, Jack, is that the salmonella bacteria can come from any food product–plant or animal–that has come in contact with human or animal feces. Read all about it here. And yes, it is just one type of food poisoning. There are others. Wash your hands and wash your food.

I would not be suprised if at the end of all this they find this outbreak is due to an overpopulation of Ferral Hogs running through the corporate/private farms leaving their poo in the crops and/or brushing up to the crops with a filthy hide. This is what happened with the spinach a while back in California. There are no natural predators for ferral hogs except man and these ugly pigs breed like rabbits. Luckily, they are very good to eat. So I say lets create a demand by allowing more resturants to serve wild boar/pig and please support you local hog killer and or chef that cooks or serves wild boar.

I had a great cinghale ragu in Boston’s north end last year. i was thrilled to find it since I haven’t seen it on any menus here. I asked where the boar came from … Texas. go figure.

i am *somewhat* surprised that your contact didn’t think salmonella came from “sal-mon fish”.

Great, I switched from tomatoes to jalapenos due the initial warning. Would some kind soul go by Sam’s and pick up a gross of tp and leave it on my front porch, stat? Thanks in advance.
