BTW… They close at 3PM.
I got there a little late and had to settle for an Angry Dog.

Happened to have lunch there today. Ordered the fried green tomato app, the tequila chicken tacos, and my friend had the brisket sloppy joe. Good flavor all around. Could have used a plate for the tomato lollipop (no place to put the stick)and wasn’t thrilled with the sweetness of the watermelon iced tea. Minor nits. Definitely cowboy chic. Be careful upon entry to the bathroom; there are separate doors for men and women but they lead into the same common area where the toilets are behind doors. A bit confusing at first, at least for me.
Overall, I think they hit their target. I hope the location works out.

Had lunch today around 2. There were 2 other tables already there. Our server, Spud, was friendly and engaging.
We ordered the Cowboy Nachos for starters. Tasty chips with cheese and ranch on top served in a little skillet. Watermelon iced tea served in a carafe with rocks glasses already on the table. Ordered the Brisket Chili and BBQ and Cheddar Brisket Tacos. The chili was hearty and served in a small soup kettle. The tacos (2) were served in a metal bowl, with lettuce, sour cream and guacamole. I hate to say it but I wasn’t totally taken with the tacos. The flour tortillas were obviously grilled but were not hot when they arrived. The tacos some with the BBQ Brisket and shredded cheddar on top. The meat was warm, but the cheese was not even melted. Time to dress it up a little bit with the side goodies. Sour cream, firm ; lettuce, iceburg ; guacamole, not what I was expecting. It tasted like the guac from Pancho’s. (Yes, I went there…once) For dessert, peanut butter cookie and chocolate ice cream sandwiches. Ah, redemption. But I did think to myself, Potbelly has ice cream sandwiches, that are a little bigger and cheaper. And for being a “late” afternoon with no crowd it did take a little while to a) get the check and b) pay the tab. It was neat that the bill came in a deck of card box. Ordered another cookie sandwich to go, for a co-worker, that wound up starting to melt, before we got out of there.
All in all, not bad. I would love to try something else and see where the menu takes me. I love Twisted Root and I know it is day two up there. But, a little attention to detail goes a long way.

Ate here Tuesday, the first day open. Really liked the tacos and nacho appetizer (which is super cheap at $4). The sides all looked carb-0-licious, so we had to avoid. I think the decor is really cool, fits in the Deep Ellum environment. There must be a trend on community sinks in bathrooms, as I’m seeing this at all the new hotspots lately. Me likey.
The hot cookie is appetizer is the best I’ve had anywhere, no joke. Left fat and happy, no complaints.

Our team went for lunch today – we got a table for 6 right away, our waiter Spud was fun and ran out to his car to grab a wine opener – we forgot ours. Brisket Grilled Cheese and Sloppy Joe were both great, chips were good but inconsistent (I had a few that needed another minute in the fryer). The ribs looked awesome, I’ll try those next time.
Fried pickle was tasty but not worth $2, but the ice cream sandwich was def. worth $4 and was a nice finish to the meal.

Grabbed lunch to-go today from CC – was originally going to try the sloppy joe sliders, but they had received a shipment of the wrong bread. So, settled for the full-sized sloppy joe, instead. Also got the mashed taters instead of the chips. The sandwich was OK, but the potatoes tasted like something I had at a hospital cafeteria once — I’ll stick w/ the chips next time. The watermelon tea was OK — a nice change from regular iced tea. All-in-all, it was OK. Will probably try them again in the near future… but will skip the mashed taters….
