Hey, got a question about your blog. I noticed it loads pages lot faster than mine. Do you host your blog on dedicated server? thanks.

Sarah,

Had dinner at Palmer's on Saturday and must say that we were disappointed. It is a wonderful space and the service was pleasant (but a little inconsistent). Food was very slow to arrive and very good. Not exceptional. Not outstanding. Just very good - and forgettable. Did I mention slow?
Fearing's has been exceptional every time we have been there - also some of the best people watching in Dallas.

Thanks everyone. I love Abacus (check out next month's D, and you'll see why), but dad has already been there twice. I've also taken him to York Street. Salum is a good suggestion though, thanks Dooner.

I'd choose Abacus, too. Fearings has a nice patio, though.

As for Salum, I really enjoy the food, but the decor (i.e. white upholstry, etc.) is starting to look a little worn.

Give a royal wave to the valet's, cross over the tracks on Eastside and Carroll towards East Dallas to the 'other side' and let yourself be seduced into the loveliest land of them all..ladies and gentleman..

The Mansion rocks and it has good man food. Abacus is also divine as is its northern cousin, Jasper's. CP's is not nearly as good as Charlie's other restaurants. Salum is also great and that Abraham is a nice, humble guy. Food prices are good and Dooner is right - it's more intimate. Fearings is not nearly as good as Stephen Pyles and since you took him there last time - try a different genre. Southwestern is old is cliche. Have fun!

Sarah, why fall for the accessories of the month? Charlie and Dean are wonderful guys, but let's face it. . . you'll be lost in the crowd? Why not try Salum? Abraham and his staff will make you feel like the VIP's you are and the bill will not send anyone into sticker shock.

I would say the food is comparable, so if your dad likes wine and gadgets, Palmer's is the easy choice. Love that tablet PC they have for their wine list, along with a great selection and good prices -- complete with the ability to buy a bottle or two on your way out the door.

I agree with Michael - Abacus! I was supposed to dine at Charlie Palmer on Sunday - they sent guests to Fearing's b/c of an "engineering" issue. The (idiot) reservationist told my friend they had to do this last weekend as well. Dinner at Fearing's was mediocre. 2 of us ordered steak medium rare and it came out medium/medium well.

To be honest i would go to Abacus. The ambiance at Fearing's is good but the food is lacking especially at their current price point. Charlie Palmer's is good and the Joule is a really pretty spot. However, if you are looking for the best food and the best looking spot in the city then it is Abacus hands down. Be prepared however to get a bit of sticker shock at any of these places...have fun.

I've had dinner at both and enjoyed the meals. Fearings, however, is showy enough to feel special yet still comfy enough to make Dad feel at home. I say Fearings.
