My fiancé and I took one of our friends to Rise No. 1 for his birthday the other night. From everything I’d heard I thought it would be the perfect place for an intimate birthday celebration. And it was. We sipped Prosecco and perused the menu at a leisurely pace, and at no time did we ever feel rushed. From the salads to the soufflés, everything was spot on. Read after the jump to learn more about our dinner and which popular soufflé may be going from a now-and-then special to a permanent resident on the menu.
When our server told us the savory special of the evening was a crabmeat soufflé, I was ecstatic. It was so light and the crab was so fresh I contemplated ordering one to go and scarfing it down in the car on the way home. Good news-a little birdie (our server) told me they are considering putting it on the menu permanently because it’s so popular. Oh, one can only hope!
We finished with the bread pudding soufflé with rum reduction, which didn’t have enough rum for my liking but the caramel sauce was heavenly. My fiancé opted for the lava cake, recommended by our server after he tried to order the chocolate soufflé. Our waiter informed him that if he preferred dark chocolate, the lava cake was the way to go. I appreciated his honesty since the cake was actually cheaper than the soufflé and it’s not often you see a server choose that over a more expensive bill.
Our evening was wonderful and the cozy ambiance of the restaurant only added to our experience. There was hardly a thing to complain about-I mean except for the fact that I didn’t order one to go. Ah but, there’s always next time.
I’m confused. Was it your fiance’s b-day or your friend’s? Either way “his birthday” is clearly stated. Souffles and crepes? Interesting guy. Throw in the “Prosecco” and I’m ordering a pair of heels for the dude.
Porterhouse and a beer anyone?
Happy Birthday
Seems pretty clear it was her friend, but so what if he wants to try something else besides gnawing on a piece of meat. You’re missing the point uhh, ohhh-go read the sports page and scratch something.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…ok. Bye, Bye.
I was @ Rise on Thursday, too. Great experience. Perfectly executed concept, and I wish them well.
I am obsessed with the bread pudding soufflé at Rise. Is it permanently on the menu now?
Kristiana – based on officially confirmed inside info – the bread pudding is not yet (and may never be) printed on the menu, but it is being offered every day…by the way, you MUST try the NEW special dessert souffle – it is a citrus-ginger and it will blow you away!
I can’t tell you how many glowing reviews I’ve heard for Rise. Just today my cubicle-neighbor today me her weekend dining experience there was amazing. This is the next “must-visit” for me…
